Runa's Belly Dance Explorations

My Belly Dance Blog chronicles my learning process, thoughts, feelings, observations, and experiences as I learn Egyptian Belly Dance under the tutelage of Nada El Masriya and all my other great instructors at Hannan's Belly Dance Studio in Toronto, Canada.

This Saturday July 7, I'm planning on attending my studio's Summer Hafla.
I'm looking forward to watching great performances, listening to live music, and dancing with everyone afterwards!

Layali El Sharq will be performing live! They are awesome!

I bought my ticket for $10.00 a couple of weeks ago. They can be purchased online
through the studio website. Last minute tickets can also be purchased for $15 at the door.

  2. June 2012 Egyptian Dance Academy Gala Show Photo Gallery

My studio has just posted the June 2012 Gala Show Photo Gallery. Everyone looks beautiful! The photographer Iden Ford is amazing.

There aren't any pictures of me dancing this year like there were the last time. Good thing I paid for the professional photos (which I'm waiting impatiently for!) Hopefully my new pictures will come through sometime next week.

However, there are some really lovely photos of the other students, some of our professional dancers, and our amazing ...

  3. Beauty in the Beach - Live Outdoor Egyptian Belly Dance and Drumming Event

One thing I've learned about summer living in Toronto: when it is hot in the city, it is always cooler down by the Toronto Beaches Boardwalk. Whether it is Woodbine Beach, KEW Beach, Scarborough Beach or Balmy Beach, every part of the Beaches Boardwalk is perfect for taking a slow stroll, sitting by the water and enjoying the fresh breezes coming off Lake Ontario. If I'm wilting from high temperatures, an afternoon by the water will always pick me up.

    There is always something ...

  4. After the Gala

I'm so glad I made myself go to the Gala. I was nervous right up to the time I started performing. All my practicing (I practiced right up to the very last minute), really paid off.

The tech rehearsal was a mess - I totally forgot what I was doing, when. It was a big blank. But my big screw up seemed to blow off my excess nervousness, and helped me focus even more. I guess that's the point of the tech rehearsal.

The performance itself was thrilling to be a part of. It's ...
  5. Egyptian Dance Academy/Hannan's Belly Dance Studio: Summer Gala 2012

by , 06-14-2012 at 09:09 AM (Runa's Belly Dance Explorations)
So tomorrow is my second summer Gala show performance! Wow. It's amazing how many things can happen and change in a year.

A year ago I went on stage and performed after spending the previous year working very hard at 1) losing about 80lbs and getting myself healthy and strong, and 2) going from an Introductory level student to a Beginner level student at the Egyptian dance studio I had joined.

During the last year I have maintained my weight loss and fitness level, and ...
