i have been thinking for a long time about the conflicts we get into on bhuz due to our assumption all is the same in this dance no matter where you go. ....if we all took a min. and "talked" about it , things might be more civil .
so let me start !
californias central valley is 100's of miles long. it is divided by south, central and north valley. that said, i am in the center, fresno. tulare county is a good 40 to 50 min. south. bakersfield ( which is concidered socal btw ) is 2 hours south. merced is little over an hour north. that said , let me tell you that just a few miles can bring a whole world of difference . fresno city hall is ran by evanglicals who do not believe in dance . there are 3 resturants that have a dancer, only one has a permit....and that took 1 year to get. so, it will only be a matter of time untill the others are called on the carpet by the ABC.
we do have several small resturants that cater to the ethnic people here . i dance at private parties at these places. most all other bookings are in home..90% of my cliental are of some middle eastern blood . what they want is very specific..so is what they dont want.
personally, i love it when they sing along with all my routene songs . last week i had the pleasure of working for a family that was hye and from iraq...i got to use wonderful music.
so, i will continue this saga...and a little about how i came up in this dance..all the live music and what the families taught us about their dance.
