Carrara Sahar
Since Spring seems to have brought on an urge for many of us to re-invent and rename ourselves, allow me to present my speculative new stage name, Carrara Sahar, for your approval.
Carrara is a gorgeous, expensive white marble from a little quarry in Italy. Michaelangelo's David was sculpted out of it.
Sahar, meaning Dawn, just sounds sexy to me. (And if you're going for the status theme, Sahars are also very exclusive and expensive ..l;, ..l;, ..l;, ).
I love all the R's and think it might be more fitting of my slightly dangerous, edgy rockstar persona than the demure Maiya that I used to dance as.
Any thoughts? Modifications? Love it? Hate it?
Talk to me!
Lisa

Re: Carrara Sahar
Sounds great!
Maybe I'm just more aware of it since I've adopted it, too, but it seems like Sahar is the latest "last name of choice" for dancers!

Re: Carrara Sahar
It is nice sounding.
Have you gone through the arabic/persian/turkish baby names websites? That's what I did. You should have seen my initial list of names to narrow down to! What about "Sahlah?" It was my second choice. Carrara Sahlah? "Sahlah means "soft, flowing" I think....

Or Saghira? ;-)
Admitedly, I kind of thought the same thing about Sahar--very commonly used....Last edited by aamel_MirahAmmal; 03-24-2008 at 11:30 AM.

Re: Carrara Sahar
Thanks for the much-needed discouragement, ladies ..l;, . Sahar really IS a trendy surname.
After rattling through a million different potential stage names today, I thought Carrara Nour sounded pretty nice.
Nour is a popular surname, as well....but somehow it sounds a bit more elegant and timeless.
What do you think? Is Carrara Nour a step in the right direction? ..l;,

Re: Carrara Sahar
Nour is my surname should I ever decide to use it! I am going to be the lone voice against Carrara...but only because it reminds me of a Porsche Carrera and I don't like thinking of cars when I hear a bellydancer's name...THAT BEING SAID 1. you're not named after a car 2. at least it's a cool car

Re: Carrara Sahar
Damnnnnnnnnnnn, I'm really beginning to rethink my choice.
This is why I appreciate ALL feedback, especially the negative!
Looks like we're going back to the drawing board....I really wish my given name wasn't so damned WASPy. It's so hard to find a name that truly resonates, feels good, and sums it all up in 2-3 syllables. ..l;,

Re: Carrara Sahar
Sorry! Everyone else liked Carrara so don't listen to me *hides* The important thing is to feel like a [insert name here] because people will be calling you by that name and you need to be comfortable! It took me months to find a name that wasn't taken by famous or local dancers and felt right; it's a total personal choice

Re: Carrara Sahar
I suppose you could pick something that includes your given name...here's one out of the ol' Arabic names list, for example:
Khalisah - Sincere, Pure
...Or Avril's always still available (*ducks as Lisa throws a coffee mug at her*)
