    rural rates, uncharted territory

So the majority of performances I do are either linked to workshop weekends, shows, clubs, etc, so I've got a pretty good set-up price-wise, regardless of where I am for that market - be it BD or Goth.

But I just got an email to do a bridal shower - a class and a performance - which I have done back in Cali several years ago - since I teach regular BD classes locally, I expect to get more of these. But I'm a little unsure of pricing to charge for that, especially in rural NJ. Let's say a short performance 8-15 mins max, and a 1/2hr-1hr long class for the ladies. It's closeby, and a decent time, small group of ladies.

I'm faced with that dilemma of overcharging/undercutting, and there really isn't anyone else in this immediate area to compare notes with. I asked my coworkers, who have hired performers (clowns, magicians, bands) for kids parties. I got "2 hrs runs me @ $250.-275 for 2 performers".

From that, I'm guessing $150-$200 for a performance and class. It's a 15-20 min drive. Anyone thoughts?

Im in rural japan and that is EXACTALY what I would charge, Id say $150 for a 10 min performance + 1 hour class and $200 for 10 min performance + 1.5 hour class. I wouldnt do the 2 hour class they will loose intrest too quickly

Rural Virginia here and I agree... I think those rates would work around here.

Yay! The 'signing up for classes' thing is also a very nice bonus, its like advertising and getting paid for it.

sounds like you will set the bench mark!
thats what happened here, we have low to no overhead, so we naturally lower in price.i know we are the best rate for group classes too.
    go for it!
you have "a name", set the standard!
