These are proposed ideas from 2005/6. Do you have any idea if this bill passed? It is dated May 22 2006... What it proposes is a GOOD idea. Think about all those Arabic songs no one can find the owner of, and that we want to rerecord but can't, for fear of a lawsuit.

According to an artist friend of mine that has been dulged recently with people emailing her about this yet again, its something that was batted about in 05-06 and that's been the end of it. Due to the fact that nothing ever really "dies" on the net it gets found every so often and people start panic mass mailing it without looking at the dates on it. This is the fourth go round of it in the past 3 years that my friend has had. Nothing to really get up in arms about.

And that sounds like exactly the thing Simon spoke of in his March 2008 article. He states that it has been "beaten or delayed" for the past couple of years, but states accurately that this doesn't mean it has gone away.

The law firm where I work just had a go-round with Getty Images over an alleged unauthorized use of a licensed image on a website. They are tenacious. If they see this legislation as beneficial to their bottom line, you better believe it will be back again and again.

Is being politically vigilent a pain in the neck (or somewhere lower?.w.: )? Yes. Better to be vigilent than sorry.
