    Private Lesson Fee

Hello, I live in New Jersey, and I'm just wondering what I should be charging my students to offer private lessons. I don't want to shortchange other dance instructors in my state. I want to be fair to everyone. Thanks so much, Neena

You might want to poll professional dancers in your area. The demographic is different throughout the US as far as pricing goes, at least for paid shows etc.
Its great to hear that you are trying to educate yourself before making an ingnorant decision that could hurt the price standards of your community!

I would also try asking music teachers what they charge for private lessons. Many dancers and musicians in DC charge at least $60/hour.

    Re: Private Lesson Fee

There are a few regional private rates posted here:
    belly dance rates

Looks like $35-45 is pretty standard for most areas, I'd expect rates to be higher in places like DC, NY, LA, lower in rural areas.

Those rates don't usually include studio rental.

    Re: Private Lesson Fee

I live in Northern NJ and charge a minimum of $55 per hour...if a studio rental is also needed, that is in addition to the flat fee.
If asked to teach in the student's home/another venue, I charge a bit more to cover travel expenses.

I think it depends on your expertise level. I would say $30-35 for someone who does not have a lot of teaching experience to 60 for a master teacher. I recently lived in New Jersey and I would pay $30-35.

I generally charge $50 per hour plus any applicable studio fees for up to 3 students.
