Need A New Business Card Maker
I need a new business card maker that is affordable. I have been using VistaPrint for a few years now but they cannot print with black backgrounds. Need a new one that is online and easy to use like VistaPrint.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ravena

Re: Need A New Business Card Maker
I used overnightprints.com, and had very good service - but that was "then" (a few years ago), this is "now". YMMV...
I couldn't use vistaprint at the time as you had to be running windoze - dunno if that's still true or not...

Re: Need A New Business Card Maker
I've been using overnightprints.com for the past few years and have been very satisfied with them. I had one issue a couple of years ago where it was a hassle to return an order that was messed up, but other than that single time they've been easy to work with and they are competitively priced.
And I know they can do black backgrounds, because that's what I have on my cards.

PsPrint did a great job, and can do black full bleed. Check their specs for how to configure your jpg so blacks come out well. I thought they were easy to use online too.

Re: Need A New Business Card Maker
I recently got some business cards from clubflyers.com and they turned out really well. They have a dark background-- not black, but I don't think they would have any trouble doing a card with a black background.

Re: Need A New Business Card Maker
I had Psprint do a set of business cards for me and they were horrible. The image and type was way to small and the black background came off when they cut it. Really bad quality. I would suggest Jakprints. They are located in Cleveland Ohio and they do alot of printing for Bands. The cards they printed for me are A+++ in quality and their prices are great.
Check them out! JakPrints

Re: Need A New Business Card Maker
Does anyone know a printer that prints on a very heavy card stock? Like an old-fashioned business card might be on?

Re: Need A New Business Card Maker
I just got my cards today from overnightprints (from a rec from this thread!) and I'm very pleased with them. jetgirl - they are on very heavy cardstock. very stiff and substantial feeling! they do free UV coating on one side (so it's very high gloss). there's an option to do UV on both sides but I don't know if they charge for that. I like the back side uncoated so I can write on it.
they were super fast, and it was SUPER easy to upload jpgs and you can proof your card right on the spot.
my only complaint would be that they made my image about 1/16" smaller all around than I expected: I wanted my image to bleed off the edges. when you proof your card they show you a "crop" line and a "safe" line where you want to be sure all of your image is contained. I designed my cards to fall within the crop line, and they moved it all in to be within the safe line. not that anybody would notice - they look great and they still bleed - but I worked in printing for 18 years and I knew what I was doing. ;) the black also isn't super black, but it looks fine to me.
just a random factoid from the industry: what these folks are doing to make the cards so affordable is they gang run as many business cards and postcards that they can fit on parent-size stock (like 20x40"). you don't get to choose your paper, but you do get nice heavy stock (for the postcard folks) and they can UV coat the whole sheet - stuff that you would usually pay extra for.

Re: Need A New Business Card Maker
I'll check them out.
I'm still poking around for real old-fashioned looking card stock. Maybe even textured. I'm not going to print a huge amount, so I don't mind a bit of an upcharge.

Re: Need A New Business Card Maker
Jetgirl, I used to make my own business/calling cards and got really cool old fashioned paper (that I then cut) from Flax in San Francisco (Market and Valencia). It was a bit labor intensive, but I had great cards. :)
Anyway, they have a great, albeit pricey, paper and card stock selection.
