duped again..the rotten things in business
Once in awhile I read the posts about undercutting or someone ripping down class flyers ..don't these people SUCK???
Over the past two months I've had two pretty large custom/wholesale orders submitted by people I've never done business with (so I should have known..but one had a website so I thought they were legit)
I learned the hard way to require payment up front..it sucks to have to require that from people I've known for many years but it makes it fair to everyone I suppose.
Well I received a pretty good size order a couple of weeks ago ..I did not send an invoice first, my dyes were ready from a previous order and I had the stuff ready so I went ahead and whipped them out.
I've been emailing her for over a week now with no response..sent an invoice no response. I'm starting to get a bad feeling about it. She had responded to all my previous emails within a day.
I can resell the items quickly and easily but it irks me that she took up space and time that could have been given to someone else. I don't know if it is another competitor doing this although I've been the target in the past for sabotage type things like this and it wouldnt surprise me at all.
It sucks that some people whether it's a competitor or other dancer in town or whatever has to spend so much time destroying things instead of focusing that energy on something useful.
Well I'll have a few single half circles available by Friday if I dont hear back..I figure 8 days is enough time to write back or the order will be up for grabs to the public..

Re: duped again..the rotten things in business
I - personally - have found that some vendors are just flakes! They do not look at this as a business but as "something to do to pass the time". I too have been the victim of this. I had someone email me - 2 days before a big show - with a big order. Being nice, I left all that stuff at home thinking that the person would pay for it. Well, a few days after the show - no response. Then I get an email stating, I changed my mind about the order. WTF?
I left all that stuff at home for nothing and I could have sold it and made $$. Now, I am stuck with it until the next show. Geez!!
After this, I have decided that I will be upfront with the person and explain that they need to pay now cuz the items may not be available after the show.
Just sucks - I know.

I'm with TamraHennaTX. Also waiting for you to list the veils. Her loss will be our gain.
By the way, my burgundy pair has arrived, and of course they're gorgeous, as always! Thank you for doing such beautiful work!

Re: duped again..the rotten things in business
oh i was going to also mention that those of you who I've done custom or wholesale thru the years with, you know who you are and you know i won't require $ up front
I recently joined Wholesalecrafts.com and some buyers want a net 30 on their items, it's very tricky because someone can write and pose as a buyer thru their site..but I talked to customer service this morning and she advised me to avoid any problems by only accepting orders that come from buyers REGISTERED thru their website (it's free for buyers but it's not bdance related that's why i didnt mention it here) . But at least their buyers have to go thru the registration process so doing a net 30 would be legit.
(I had another email last week someone posing as an interested buyer for a gallery, she said she found me on the WC site but she would not give me her buyer id so I knew it was a fake)

Re: duped again..the rotten things in business
that sucks! When people contact me for photography, mostly weddings..I dont book the day until I get a signed contact and deposit (which is non refundable). I also get a deposit for dance gigs..I am tired of people flaking out and not wanting to pay after I have done all my prep work...
any veils left?? I want one...LOL

Re: duped again..the rotten things in business
I've had this with dressmaking a few times, from individuals and shops - I've drafted designs, cut patterns, bought fabric to make up samples, and then they have either wandered off or changed their mind or just taken ages to get in gear. Makes me cross, grrr.
Which is why I stopped making for people I don't know!
