Quantico VA?
Well dont quote me, or hold me to this but we may be moving to Quantico next year, If of course the USMC decides that it is the best for the USMC that we move there.....
Anyways I am wondering about the community, the work opportunities and how open to a new dancer that area would be, and if there is even room. I would like to teach 1 class a week and of course dance as much as possible at resturant, private gigs, and haflas.........Any help would be appreciated. If you want to give me the basic going rates that would be great too......
Also strange ? here but being over seas for 2 years you forget this stuff
1. cell phone prices, and would this be the best for possible work contact
2. cars what do you all recomend? im thinking of leasing a hybrid
3. Would other dancers freak out if i changed my web site location (of course after we gets orders) and bam there is a new dancer in the area.
4. I was thinking of hosting a HEY IM NEW hafla at my home, is this weird? and would people even come?
5. what about those sites like gig masters, do they really work?
Thanks in advance for any feed back

Re: Quantico VA?
Quantico is not far from me at all. I was going to accept a job there, but I changed my mind with these darn gas prices! They have a huge mall, and otherwise as I know it, it's somehwat of a boring town. It also depends on what your definition of boring is. I define it by the size and how much is going on there on average. I don't mean to discourage you at all. But you may have to come out closer around me to do more BD stuff (i.e. Alexandria, Washington D.C., Arlington, Falls Church, Vienna, Fairfax). The Northern VA area is generally is pricey, but that's especially with housing, standard living costs, gas, etc. But as for "stuff", not bad at all.
I hope I'm answering your questions properly. I just skimmed over your post. Does this help?

Re: Quantico VA?
Well it cant get any more borring than okinawa, after 1.5 years, i have done 1 festival, and a few private parties. I am the only dancer at the only med resturant and though things are picking up BLA is all i can say I am getting my students involved and the japaneese girls are really taking things into their own hands, doing festivals and haflas. I dont know about main land but here on okinawa, they dont like americans much, so my best client base is americans, and most of the women are so insecure that they dare not ever hire a belly dancer...........Of course i am so worried about there being nothing in Q va, or even too many and no one wanting to let me in. We are looking to live in stafford, I am not really sure where that is, but my hubby says it is close to Q va. I would like to as far N. as possible so i can study with the great teachers, and dancers, but it may not happen......USMC rules my hubby and i go with him, Some times it is frustrating..........Maybe I can just start by going to haflas........

Re: Quantico VA?
Let's just say that with Stafford and Quantico, you'll most likely have to venture out in order to get to the more happening lifestyle and BD community, though I'm sure they have at least one locally. If Manassas does (where I live, pretty desolate when it comes to certain things, very small town but it's growing), then they have to! But based on your description of Okinawa, I can assure you it will be MUCH better and more exciting. You may have to go out further than your area, but there's good public transit too!

Re: Quantico VA?
Congrats Annwyn! How exciting.
Northern VA prices are pretty much on par with DC prices as far as parties and regular venues.
There is a wealth of knowledge in this town. You'll have fun! :)

Being a NoVa (Northern Virginia) chicky is amazing. I moved here in 1999 and never looked back. You are moving to an area that has IMO one of the most active bellydance communites in the country! There are event s going on every night!! Now - most of those events may be in DC or Maryland but the thing is - you have options!
I feel blessed to be able to live in an area that is supportive and rather loving. There are amazing - i mean AMAZING - dancers and instructors. I always tell my students - DC has a ton of "Belly dance legends" find out who they are and learn what you can. I like the fact that there are so many different styles to learn and so many people willing to teach.
Oh yes - you are gonna love it here...

Re: Quantico VA?
1) I have always liked verizon the best. About 40/mo i think but they have pretty good coverage.
2) a hybrid would be awesome if you can afford one. I opted to buy a cheaper car that gets 30 miles a gallon instead of a new one. Would love a hybrid though
3) I don't think dancers would freak out. You are a dancer and you have to keep doing what you love. Also, you would add variety to the area.
4) The hafla idea is awesome. I wish more people would that.
5) i dont know anything about it.
