Working with DJs
I was friended by a local Dj on Myspace who offered to keep me in mind for future wedding gigs.
My question is that he asked if I would give him 10% of my theoretical earnings and asked how much I charge- what do you guys think about that arrangement. I don't know how legit this guy is, but it could be a nice source of wedding gigs. (I also don't know what to charge for wedding gigs up here- does anyone have any pricing info for Vermont?)
Sorry for asking so many questions.
Thanks for any input!!

My opinion is that 10% is pretty reasonable (I'd consider up to 20% for an agenting fee). I'd build that into the rate I gave him, though.

Definitely build it into the rate. Everyone deserves making a cut but it shouldn't hurt what you earn. As for Vermont rates, I would check around with other pros in your area. I can only speak for weddings in the CT and MA area (starts around $350).

I agree $300 at least sounds good. so Charge $350 and give him his 10 %. But the fee depends on how long you dance, if they want costume changes, how far away it is. I would start at $200 for a 15 min show in the city. More for all the afore mentioned things. and an extra $100 per extra dancers.

It's really quite different from city to city.
In the DC/Baltimore area you'll more likely do 20 minute shows. For private parties 20 minutes are usually $200 and up from dancers with experience.
When you get to the East Coast- be sure to find out what the local rates are. :)
