Thread: good news about shipping overseas!

Due to the increase in shipping rates lately, I explored a few different options at the post office.

If you ship items using first class to overseas, you have to buy the envelope but it's less expensive than paying for global priority or express mail. You can insure it ..I'm not sure about tracking.

The post office SAYS it takes about the same time as global priority mail takes..5 to 7 days.

So I'm using first class to ship veils overseas now, we'll see how it goes ..so far the average price to ship to UK is about $5 for shipping and $2 for the envelope (so $7 total..it used to run about $11 for global priority). Other locations like Poland and Spain are a bit more but still considerably cheaper. That is , on average , for two to three veils in one of the smaller envelopes.

I sent 10 veils to an Australian reseller today, not including the price of envelope it was only $13 for 10 veils. That's not bad at all. We'll see if they actually get delivered in the time promised.

If anyone is selling heavy costumes, global priority may still be the best way to go, since you can flat rate a slim box for about $37. But for lightweight items, it looks like first class is cheaper.

I'm still using usps priority mail for U.S. purchases, which averages about $4.60 for one to two veils now. But strangely if I use first class from Hawaii it could take a few weeks to arrive. Weird.

Unforatunately, I don't think those good rates will affect me. I still get all my costumes from Egypt. Amira El Kattan and Sahar ship using EMS (express mail service) which is $50 per costume. This is actually not a bad price in my opinion. Eman still uses FEDEX for me, which runs about $175 per costume or if you order more than one costume from her the price is cheaper. Its cheaper to fedex in bulk (she uses my fedex account). Hallah also uses EMS which is about $50.00. When you ship to and from Egypt you can only use three options: EMS; FEDEX or air mail. For costumes, you don't want to use airmail since its un-trackable so I use FEDEX and EMS. You cannot use Global to Egypt as its an unrecognized form of mail that their postal system does not acknowledge; therefore, that mail will not get delivered.

First class mail leaving the US isn't expedited through customs like priority and such. I had one package wait 2 weeks in customs, and it was just books going to the West Indies.

If there isn't a time limit, it's definitely cheaper. Yay first class!
