restaurant work in a rural area?
I know many people have posted about restaurant work, but I think my situation might be a little different. I live in a rural area and the closest city is still not a "major" city. I would say my area is growing, but by no means a "big city." There are probably, say, 100 or more restaurants, none of which have bellydancers. Well, actually, I did find a Mexican Restaurant that has bellydancers, which seemed a little odd to me.
I currently work as a bellydancer doing mostly bellygrams and events. I would love to have some steady restaurant work in my area. My question is, would it be appropriate to ask restaurants if they would be interested in hiring a bellydancer, even if they don't have bellydancers? I assume I would have to go to "non-chained" individually owned restaurants, but there are no middle eastern restaurants around here.
I didn't consider this before, but when I saw this Mexican restaurant doing it, I thought maybe I could give it a try. Most of the bellydancers I know working at restaurants are in Atlanta or other major cities. I am at least an hour away from there and I would love to work in restaurants in my own area. What do you guys think? Should I approach my local restaurants?

Re: restaurant work in a rural area?
i would, but keep it in context
indian, greek, other med restaurants may hire cuz it fits their mood, style, etc
look at the decor, the ambiance and judge from that..........as well, look at the clientele.........
then find a way to 'marry' our entertainment to their venue, either thru cuisine, themes, etc..........if it doesn't make sense to them, they may not be open to it.........

Re: restaurant work in a rural area?
I'm talking to an Italian restaurant owner in the area about having a once a month "Greek Night" where he could have all Greek specials on the menu, and bellydancing. This type of arrangement could work for lot of different types of restaurants.
