Thread: iso bd photographer...

... in mid-atlantic region. any suggestions?

If you are not looking to spend a fortune on dance pics (I don't know what you want them for- performance promo? creating a website? whatever...), you can consider a TFCD (time for CD) or TFP (time for prints) arrangement, where you act as a model, in return for a CD of the images or prints of the images.

There are model/photographer sites, like Model Mayhem, where you can set up a profile and go look for likely togs.

Or what I did, when I wanted a range of pictures was to contact a local Photography club, and point out to them how interesting it would be for their members to try photographing Dance in Motion, sparkly costumes and diaphanous silk veils. They leaped at the opportunity, and I got 5 cds of fabulous photos, some of them already photoshopped for me!

Here in the UK we have several pro photographers within the BD community who specialise in dance photography, such as traceylove/photo and freddie, who sometimes post here on bhuz, and Polstar (who is pals with Pixie on your side of the Atlantic). Maybe you have similar specialists in your local (or near-local) dance community.

PS. mid-atlantic sounds to me like the middle of the Ocean! ;D

i thought about doing this.. but i looked at it and it looks like you have to be a model... i wasn't sure about posting a model profile when i just want bd pics. if someone's done that and that's ok, let me know.

A couple of my online friends have done it, not for BD necessarily, but I wouldn't have classified either of them as pro-models. They aren't the archetypal fashion model types. You can put up a profile to say you're a dancer and that you are after dance photos.

have you thought about contacting Azhia and or Cassie of Raq the Camera? They will be back sometime soon to the area--Azhia does FANTASTIC makeup and Cassie is a wonderful photographer, not to mention a dancer herself! I've done two photography sessions with them and had a blast. Very reasonable as well!

I too am in "your area" and I have heard great things about Cassie and Azhia. Roger Wood used to do photography in the area (Performance Photography) though I do not know his status these days.

He had to work with the lighting in the community center and my ladder not being the right size, so the backdrop could not go to the ceiling,m::.

thanks... i should have mentioned that i took some w/ sarah skinner before and they were awesome! i'm looking to update my portfolio and am interested in seeing some other awesome photographers...

i was thinking studio pics but another thing i was considering is getting someone to come to a performance to get some action shots. thanks for the suggestions everyone.

A great way to get free to inexpensive pics done is to go to your local college and meet up with some 3yr or 4th year photography students. They are usually always looking to expand their portfolios, have really good equipment, and are hungry to try all sorts of cool things. I have some terrific pics from students. You may also want to try new photo studios - they are usually looking for "models" so they can use their pics to advertise with.
