International Dance Council CID??
I recently received 2 emails from this organization. Just wondering what people know or have to say about them. Thanks.
The International Dance Council - CID UNESCO
CID is the official umbrella organization for all forms of dance in all countries of the world.
CID is recognized by UNESCO, national and local governments, international organizations and institutions.
It is the worldwide forum bringing together the most important international, national and local organizations, as well as select individuals active in dance.
It is a non-governmental organization founded in 1973 within the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, where it is based.
Its members are the most prominent federations, associations, schools, companies and individuals in 150 countries.
Main characteristics
CID is an umbrella organization, in the sense that it evolves on a different level from its members. It is not connected to any particular dance school, company, federation or other institution. It does not organize festivals, workshops or competitions.
It is strictly non-commercial; it has no products or services to sell. It is independent of any government, political ideology or economic interest.
CID treats all forms of dance on an equal basis. It does not promote a particular view of dance, recognizing its universal character as an art form, as a means of education and as a research subject.
It is non-discriminatory. Reflecting the principles of the United Nations and UNESCO, it is open to all approaches to dance, without prejudice for race, gender, religion, political affiliation or social status.
CID is governed democratically - its leadership is elected by all members every four years.
Membership includes more than 400 institutions (federations, schools, companies, competitions, festivals etc.) and over 3,000 individuals (choreographers, educators, dance historians, administrators, critics and others) in 150 countries. Among them figure hundreds of prominent choreographers, dancers, teachers, 100 university professors and further 100 with a doctor's degree related to dance.
It is open to membership, accepting organizations, institutions or persons with sufficient credentials.

Re: International Dance Council CID??
They've actually been around for quite a few years. I was first solicited to join their organization and participate in their events back in the 1980's. I may still be listed with them (haven't kept up with it), but I was never able to participate in any of their events as most of them were held in Europe (wasn't an option on a single income family's finances). Anybody from Europe that's had direct experience with them want to weigh in on this one?
