Craigslist
Hi Laides,
I just found the "gigs" portion of Craigslist and found 2 wanted ads for bellydancers. One was unpaid (some guy's halloween party??? wtf) and the other was a corporate party. I'm a little wary of Craigslist but maybe some of you have success stories. SOooo is Craigslist a place to look for decent jobs, or are you more likely to get scummy people? Or a little of both?

Re: Craigslist
I got a party off of it before - I guy was looking for entertainers for his b-day party (he was looking 2-3 months ahead) I emailed him with my prices and info, made it very clear that I don't do bachelor parties, and my shows are family friendly.
He hired me - the party was great!! Then someone at his party hired me for 2-3 weeks later, equally great.
I occassionally see people looking for bdancers, I email them - why not? It's the same as when they call you - through your conversation you can weed out the weirdos.

Re: Craigslist
I have gotten some decent gigs off of Craigslist, and some slimy inquiries. I also post wage info on a regular basis so that people - both belly dancers and the GP know what the going rates are. It helps.
Drop the Corp event a line and see what's what! Can't hurt? Then Vet them like crazy!

Re: Craigslist
I emailed the corporate person (but they posted in early September so who knows if I'm too late) so I'll let you know what comes of it; the halloween guy, no. At least he indicated he wanted it for free....I considered emailing the guy to let him know real bellydancers don't dance for free, but decided against it. He just wants some hot chicks in a Frederick's costume. Good idea to post going rates, Tahira! People need to see that info...
I'll make a habit of checking CL a little more often; I didn't even think of it for potential gigs!

Re: Craigslist
I've gotten a bunch of jobs off of Craig's List. Some because I responded to a request, others because they saw my ad (I frequently post adds on the "Event Services" section). There are lots of "we will pay you $20 for the night" and "we are looking for a bellydancer - can be student - to dance for free", but you can definitely find good jobs in between those.

Re: Craigslist
I post in events & have had several contacts--none that actually worked out though because I think they were expecting the $20 for 2 hours rate, ha ha ha ha....
