oh yea..dancing! hotel conventions anyone?
Yesterday I received a call from a silk scarf artist here in Hawaii (her name is Patty Pease Johnson if you care to google her, she's fantastic) . She has been contracted out to teach a silk painting class at a hotel/resort on the other side of the island in March..to 100 students!
She called and asked if I would be interested in being an assistant teacher (hell yes) ..told me a bit about the expected clientele. She was filling out my profile info to be presented to the students, of course I told her that my business started solely as dyeing veils for bellydancers. Which led to..hey want to do a demo dance and show off your veils? Hmm large ballroom overlooking the ocean, lots of space for veils..YES
I'd thought about approaching hotels a long time ago when first moving to Hawaii..there seems to be quite the opportunity for a pro dancer to dance for conventions, weddings, banquet stuff. I know not everyone lives in a tourist-y area but for those who do, have you ever talked with hotel managers to see if they would refer you to parties and conventions coming thru? It's really easy to get a list of upcoming events (I asked).
Seems to be a lot of opportunities for dancers. Also I know we talked about cruise ships before but out here it's more popular for hula dancers to dance on the cruises..
