    what to charge for this

i have been contacted by a proper cultural venue, who usually organises concerts with quite well known folk musicians. they wont me to suggest a program to them that consists of a workshop and a full show (like 45min-1h, i checked their website and that's what their concerts usually are).

well, obviously i cant fill that on my own, but my troupe can. but what on earth do i charge them for this?

its like they want to know the buy-out price for a theatre show. i dont know what's reasonable, i dont want to over or under price.

Re: what to charge for this

Oh! Our troupe does stuff like this quite often. First find out who will be paying for and handling promotional expenses (you or them), who will be providing music and sound technical staff (you or them), who will be covering ticket sales...If you have to do all this, then you'll want to bump up your price.
    Then:
    1. I would seperate your workshop fee from the concert.
    2. Charge a per participant rate for the workshop (say $35/hr for the 1st hr, $15 each additional hour. So for a 2 hr workshop you get $50/student--or whatever you would charge & you think that market can support). Set a guaranteed minimum amount of paid registrants in order to run the workshop.

    2. Then offer to split the door proceeds at the concert for 60/40 or 50/50.

3.Set a ticket price (say $20 so you get $10) and a guaranteed minimum (base it on ticket prices, but unlike the workshop stipulate that the concert will happen regardless of whether the venue has sold enough tickets to cover your fee--because your troupe will have invested considerable time preparing for this show so you must get paid the minimum fee).

    3. Base your minimum fee on anticipated ticket sales--if the theater can hold 250 people and you think 175 are likely to buy tickets then your minimum fee is $1,750 (based on a 50/50 split with a $20 ticket price).

    4. Offer a bundled rate for people who pay for the workshop & concert.

they are covering everything, i just need to show up and teach, and then perform. i'll have a look on their website, and see how many people they seat/what kind of prices they charge, good idea

i was thinking of charing 100E/hour for the workshop, and 800-1000E for the show, depending how many dancers i take. they'll never do a pro participant.

Artemisia, I don't have any idea.

But I wish I had your challenges. School's too big to take a break from all the hard work (of keeping so many students registered)... large newspapers calling wanting to give you free publicity...cultural centers calling wanting full workshops/shows.... I hope you're counting your blessings and celebrating all your successes!

p.s. Not trying to imply that it's all luck! You've worked hard, your dancing has become truly luscious according to the last youtube clip I saw of you, and it couldn't all be happening to a sweeter person.

Re: what to charge for this

thank you lauren, at the moment it's feeling all very frustrating though, its becoming a lot to deal with on top of the job and all, and i've had some troupe troubles lately as well that made me feel that i either need a break AND i need to concentrate on myself more... and i feel like there is so much stuff i need to make quick decisions on all the time, and ppfft, sometimes it gets a bit much.

but i'm not complaining. dance wise i feel like i'm getting somewhere these days, like my dancing is finally getting where i want it to be, like i crossed some plateaus and had some real break throughs on the stuff i have been working on... (yeay my private lesson with aziza in orlando, and yeay the feedback i got from orit) but it's the business side of things that's getting in the way at the moment. ;-) so where does one turn than with questions; bhuz!!!!!
