Hey

I get a lot facebook friend requests to my personal account from random dancer i have never met - I don't really want people who have never met 'vicky' having access to her shiz. Anyway, I have set up a facebook account as 'Zafirah Dance' so I can be more 'friendly' to the dance community - please be my friends!!

Yeah facebook seems to be quite good at recommending bhuzzers now that I am friends with a few of you!

got stuck with my real name first, now i changed it. tried 'artemisia of europe', ha, but the system wouldnt let me. LOL. apparently the "RULES" are you need to use your own name, no artist names. bit weird. so now i'm artemisia hannelore

i see jillinia is jillina jillina, and some other dancers seem to have gotten round the problem as well...

Well i just started a new account. . .

I like to keep my official dance stuff seperate from my personal life anyway.

Dancers I have only met a few times and more business type contacts don't need to know when I'm pissed off, or see embarrasing photos of when I was in high school/drunk as an undergraduate.

Yeah, I got it around it by calling myself Shira Dotnet.

Yeah, I just use my dance name...even though it confuses all my family members. hahahahah.

Hee, so do I. All my friend requests to family start with "Yes, you DO know me."

i changed mine cause there was an article in a belgium news paper, about the tax people and other organisations googling people to check up on their income declarations and such!!! so i want my real last name out of there. not that i do so much that's not allowed, but still, one never knows. i'd like a little more anonymity thanks. i also dont want a new employer or stuff to find me right away etc etc.

the newspaper also said "have you googled yourself lately". i hadnt, so i did, and facebook came up second, NOT my university stuff.. i dont like that. people googling my real name are usually trying to find me as an academic. i want them to find my academic profile, and email, not facebook.

plus it's afterall a networking tool for my bellydance business, so i want my BD name on there,

also created a group for my school, and an event page for my festival. and that last one has proofed to be a fantastic advertising tool!!! many of my students used it to invite their friends/family to our event!

By the way, if anyone wants to send me a friend invite on facebook to my "Shira Dotnet" name, be sure to include a few comments in the "message" portion of the invite letting me know that you're a dancer, and that you're a fellow bhuzzer.

I've received a number of invites from people who are using their real names instead of dance names, and their profiles don't mention anything about belly dancing. So those might sit in my in box a while until I find time to send a private messaging asking what we have in common.

I do accept friend invites from fellow dancers, but often I can't tell someone is a dancer from a quick glance at her profile.

The reason I don't accept friend invites unless I *know* someone dances is because facebook has poor security. When you accept a friend invite from someone, you give them access to your profile at a level that a clever hacker can exploit. I've been on facebook less than a year, and I've seen a number of people's profiles get hacked by spammers.

I'm not too savvy with these sites either and have both my real name and my dancer name, but I wanted to keep them separate. I'm Fotia on MySpace and Tribe, but everywhere else I am Bonny Whiteford. Not that I don't like my name but I had something else in mind. I'm learning though!

I'm rather picky about who I accept as friends - on every social network, but especially on Facebook.
"Friends" can see all my pictures, read what I am doing today etc.
And I always find it ridiculous when people are proud of having 1000 Facebook friends, as if that's an achievement... Because some people will just accept anybody.

On Tribe I once deleted about 20 "friends" because I could not even remember who they were....

So don't be offended if I don't accept your friends request. I just prefer to stick to people I actually have met or have been in cyber contact with for a while.

On the other hand I think it's a great tool to find people I haven't seen in YEARS, like old school friends or that salsa dancer with the sexy voice

depends what you use it for. Facebook is ad advertising tool for me. for my show it has really done wonders... so for that purpose, the more friends, the better; just need to be carefull what info to put on there
