if this affects akai and the stuff i make (or where i get supplies) , TY and i are strongly considering the possibility of moving to his homeland of Malaysia and i'll stay in business, but no longer sell to the US

Okay, I just read the article, and I have to say, on many things it sounds as though you simply need the certificate of manufacturing. I would have to look deeper into the question of testing, but if you are selling garments to adults, the fire issue shouldn't be a problem. You simply declare it to be non-fire retardant.

Now that may be a trifle naive of me, but that is what it sounds like over all. Once again, I would have to look deeper into the wording regarding the necessity of testing. . .

ETA" just looked at it a little deeper, and I have to say, I agree that there are more questions than answers right now. It almost feels as though this bill was written by someone who had little to no experience as a manufacturer. especially as a small manufacturer.

I understand where some of this comes from. having someone die or be severely injured because they have been exposed to toxic substances in their environment is horrible. But sometimes the law makers don't look at the whole picture.

I would wait till after the inauguration (even though the personnel won't change) and call the appropriate trade offices in D.C. for clarification on how a small business can be compliant, or even have a lawyer who specializes in trade law do that.

mmm..i believe i can sell to canada only if the items are not made in the US and not sold FROM the US but as the other ladies pointed out, after the inauguration we're hoping for more info

you guys may be in for one helluva sale ..g.: and the site may be down temporarily while we move to another country if it comes to that. I'm thankful there are options with moving to Malay

but for other vendors, how will this fare out? maybe we will no longer be able to buy bellydance costumes in the US ? let's form a nice orderly line outside the Bella shop shall we :)

I wouldn't worry about this right now. It looks like it will mainly target larger corporations who target the children's market. This is like that time they said we'd all have to fill out individual sales tax forms for every state we sell to. Never happened. It won't affect the small sellers I am sure.
