Business card picture!
I guess it is business card time! I am working on some new ones and I wanted to use the same theme I used for my holiday postcards...but I am feeling weird about my palm being flipped out like that. Is that bad? It's a great picture in every other way.

I also have this one:

Those are about all the recent, high quality pics of me that I can use right now. I am waiting to lose weight before I get some pro ones done...but I need cards!
Gimme your advice be it good or bad! Grazie mille!

Re: Business card picture!
The palm doesn't bother me at all, and I think you look friendly, cheerful, high-energy and like a dancer who would bring a lot of life to my party in that pic.
The other one is nice, but more static.

Re: Business card picture!
I'm not a pro, so take this with a pinch of salt: I like the first pic because of its liveliness, and I think for the non-Arab GP it's just fine. However, we've discussed on this board the issue of palm-out positions like that and how they might read as offensive to Arabs. Do you have any Arab friends you could ask? Are there any here on Bhuz who could weigh in?

Re: Business card picture!
I prefer the first picture. It has more life in it - more of a sense of fun, more "life of the party" vibe. The second photo looks as though you were getting bored with your photo session, and the smile doesn't seem to reach your eyes.
I don't see a problem with the palm being out. There is a myth circulating among belly dancers that it's somehow offensive to expose your palm to Arabs. The fact is that it's perfectly fine to expose your palm.

First picture - although you are clearly the same size in both pics - the first picture is all about your style, your love of dance

First picture. It has so much more life and I would say that it will sell your 'product' much more successfully than the 2nd.

Re: Business card picture!
1st picture. The palm doesn't bother me but if it bothers you maybe use the technique Lauren posted. She had a pix that showed her feet in a position she did not like. She positioned her pix so her feet were cropped by the lower edge of the card. That would involve flipping text and pix but it is an option.
The 2nd pix is quite nice but the 1st has more appeal.

The first picture is really great! I don't think the palm-out thing is a problem, but if it bothers you and you've got skills, you can always Photoshop in a veil from another picture! (I don't have skills, so I actually have no clue how easy or difficult this might be.) Or you can work it and put at the top of your card, "Stop! In the name of belly dance...".
Sorry, couldn't resist. But it is a beautiful picture and looks great with the blingin' star motif you have going on for the postcard. You'll have to show us how the business card turns out!

Re: Business card picture!
Yes! My impression is that there are certain gestures that are offensive (palm forward, or sole of the foot toward someone, or middle finger down are examples) but just passing through those positions is meaningless.
Just like raising your middle finger is offensive here. If you had a pic where you're glaring at the camera and clearly jamming your middle finger at us, it would be offensive (or funny). But if you're smiling and clearly moving through a position where your middle finger is slightly raised compared to your other fingers (which it may be on your left handin this pic?), no one would ever notice or care. That's not the gesture.

Re: Business card picture!
Here is the new business card. I used the same theme from the postcard. My boss called it hippy, which I think is cute because I am a recovering hippy!

I love how, in a very simple way, you are educating people about the term raqs sharki. Very clever!

Re: Business card picture!
Funny that you mention that. I gave my card to a friend and she looked at it and said, "What's raqs sharqi?"
