Tax time
Hi All!
It's that time, tax time! I know a lot of you have questions and such or need help doing the actual forms. I do not have access to all state tax forms on my system hence I can't necessarily prepare them , but if you want someone to look them over before filling or if you have questions feel free to contact me. I'm always willing to barter for my services!
One of these days I WILL make a mini-booklet on tax and bookkeeping tips for dancers.

Re: Tax time
Hi, Amity!!! I was wondering if you could email to me (zafirah.rakkasah@gmail.com) any and all bellydance-related Tax-Reporting Tips/Advice you have (e.g., can I write off workshops I've attended? If so, what about airfare/travel to said workshops)??? Please, Please, Pretty-Please??? Since I officially became an Amarain BD instuctor (as of June 2008) and I'm *knock on wood* getting more gigs & requests for private lessons, I'd now like to get things in order for the tax accountant... I would sooo appreciate it... Hugs-N-Shimmies, Zafirah

Re: Tax time
..l;, so, you want her to write the book right now and e-mail it to you? I think offering to answer our questions here for free during her busy season was pretty darned generous....
The workshop question is a good place to start, but maybe posting the answer here so we can all benefit would be a good idea?

Re: Tax time
All expenses relating to earning revenue in GENERAL are dectible if they are in the normal course of business. As a performing artist there is a fine line between biz or hobby. Example (and there are many theories) If you are a performer and used the information to build your repetoire to get more gigs, then it's deductible. If you only teach and buy a million costumes, then you may have to rethink if you're buying for a hobby or to make money.
