Thread: Frustration!

I rent class space from the Town where I live. The center has a dance studio with mirrors. Recently a new fitness lady is renting there and has taken every evening but my set Fridays. So I want to rent another evening but she has it sewn up from 6-8:15 PM every night. So a ask the director for another room and ask to bring my own portable mirrors. (I also would like the use of the cabinate in the room as other groups have). She, the director, says that portable mirrors would be a liability (keeping in mind that the rule is that if a attach them to the wall they then belong to the Town.)
I planned on rolling them into the alcove at the side of the room when not in use.
So very frustrated, the theater group leave huge hand built set in the Aud on a regular basis? I know because I've rented the space and had to move them.
What to do, OK maybe I'm just thinking out loud and don't expect a good answer here, just venting!

Oh I am trying to convince her to let me bring in mylar mrrors, anyone ever use/make these?

Is there anywhere else you could rent space?

The bad part is, no, the rent is really good! The director is just very hard to deal with.

How do you guys figure out who's renting when? How far out do you book the room? Maybe you can rebook the rooms before the fitness lady's lease is up? Is it a set fee or is it based on how many students you have?

Actually its simple, just call and ask.

What about taking over the time slot immediately following the fitness lady? As people usually hang around after class a bit - mayhaps you could pick up a student or two of hers who might be interested in trying out your class.

As for mirrors...
I have mirrored plexiglass in my home for dancing/teaching - but prefer the regular glass ones affixed to the wall at my studio location.

One place I worked had the mylar mirrors. They can ding up easily, but are worth the low price if you can guarantee no one else will touch them.

I have found that fitness instructors ALWAYS get first dibs on good rooms. But in fairness, they bring in more students, therefore, more traffic into the center. The center probably keeps track of the number of users it has and can use the numbers to justify future spending.

Still waiting for an answer from the center.....
I called and explained that the fitness instructor teaches other classes in rooms without mirrors. I explained that her students are doing movement for the sake of exercise and mine are doing movements to make it look good, dancers. I also pointed out that it is a dance studio. We'll see.....
As for doing it after she's finished with classes, she uses the room 4 days per week until after 8PM, my students are feeling that this is to late to begin.

Oh I did book the room prior to the holidays and forwarded the email to the director, "it was a mistake but now she;s booked" was what I got back.
