Thread: Weird phone call - UK - event in Dubai

I just got a phone call from a company in Warwickshire (I think the lady claimed it was a TV company). It was very strange. Asking if I was a ‘choreographer’ . .um . . well yes and no I guess. Pointed out it is a largely solo improvised dance form and people mostly do their own choreographies. They are doing a big show in Dubai and she is having problems finding arabic dance specialists?? Why the hell are they putting on an ‘big professional’ arabic culture and dance show when their research methods are god knows what (she hadn’t seen my actual website, who knows where she got my phone number from – I mostly just list my email and web address and not my phone no on directory sites). I only have my phone number on email sig and business cards and maybe my workshop listings on wiggle and nada site (but if she had found wiggle why me out of all the people on there?)

Surely whoever they are doing it for in Dubai might know some dancers, um . .being in Dubai! (yeah I know its not egypt but there are at least some foreign dancers in the hotels, right?)

And if they find their ‘choreographer’ just who exactly are they going to be choreographing if they don’t know any arabic dancers?

WTF?

Just . .so . . odd.

My initial gut feeling was to avoid like the plague (my general rule with all media . . . .I’m no naïve glory hunter) without being rude. And that was before It got weird!

Anyone else in the UK get this werid call?
