Honestly, i never ever thought about it, because they do it in Atlanta, and the dancer who hired me accepted them at our restaurant, so it just never occured to me to wonder. ..c::

It isn't only the state laws. You will need to also check the local jurisdiction laws. The easiest way to check is to look at your state, county, and city website to view the laws on dancing/tipping. These are usually in the adult entertainment section. We can sometimes make a good case for not counting under those rules depending on how they are written, but in the cases where it states "dancing" or "entertainment" without specifying type of dance or degree of dress you will probably have to abide by it. Another law section to look at would be the liquor laws if the location serves alcohol. There are separate permits in most jurisdictions required for establishments that both sell alcohol and have entertainment.

Sometimes there are separate theatre rules, but they usually don't count in restaurants.

Might sound like a weird suggestion, but usually a strip club will be well aware b/c they are the ones that would be most likely to get checked up on and busted.

If they can take body tips, then so can anyone else, if they can't; then neither can you.

Our area is still playing catch up I guess. No body tipping, and our strip clubs consist of girls in bikinis (with tops on as well) dancing.

this is usually determined by the liquor license board in most municipalities. So you can go check with the local A-B-C office.

Based on the fact that your local strip club entertainers keep their tops on makes it reasonable for you to abide by their rules as their "dress code" is more similar to belly dance costumes than some places.
In many areas though the strippers take off more. Often the tipping rules are tied to the liquor codes and adult entertainment rules which in turn are guided by what body parts are covered. So, for example often there is no costume tipping for gals who are showing their nipples or rules state "no being closer than 5 feet to a girl whose areolae are showing in an establishment that serves alcohol". Some really ARE that specific.
Last I checked our bras cover the nipples quite well- as long as they have proper fit anyway. ....and some (like mine!) have SO much padding they're like ARMOR! (when belly dancer friends hug they lean apart from each other or their boobs clash like jousters!) ..l;,..l;,..l;,

Anyway- as far as my sources- I work in a tristate area- where all the different counties have different rules. I've had to look them up. As people stated above- it's usually the liquor control board.

ah ok, I didn't realize they might have different rules for the amount you are taking off. but yea, the strip clubs here aren't really all that strippy, so hard to tell 'round here in the bible belt

A few months ago I was also curious about this--I'd heard body tipping was illegal--and started looking in the city code, which was on line on the city website in the live entertainment code. I found that in my area (Richmond, Virginia) the laws only apply to entertainers with the nipples or pubic regions exposed. If covered, it is a non-issue.
