    anyone see this scam?

just got this in, yet another attempt at scamming, less blatant, but still really bad (for a UK res, the english is atrocious, not to mention referring to their 'daughter' as 'teaching HIM great things'), just curious how far their net is :p

    Greetings,

Please direct all email to jenifer_morgan02@yahoo.co.uk

This is Jenifer morgan.I am from the United Kingdom,my daughter will be coming for an holiday in the United state, and i wont want her to be less busy,so i just want to know maybe you can always come and teach him great things on ( belly dance lesson ) every afternoon. If this is possible,i will want you to get back to me with the cost of your teaching for two weeks in july(15th-30th)..she will be coming to your house for 1 hour each afternoon,2pm-3pm or you can give me the time you will be available for the lesson.I have someone that will always drive her down to your house. My daughter name is linda morgan, she is 18 years old.I will want you to calculate 1 hour per day from Monday-Friday for the whole 2 weeks, and get back to me so that we can arrange on payment.

Looking forward to read from you.

Please direct all email to jenifer_morgan02@yahoo.co.uk

    Regards,
    Jenifer morgan.

I had some fun with one of these scammers once. I replied with some ridiculous amount for training the twin sons or whatever for two months. The scammer actually agreed. I was thinking about arranging a meeting and having the cops show up too, but too much trouble. Just delete...

The meeting would have never taken place anyway - they just want your money, that's all.

    I got a new one:

Good day, I am Gary From the united state.Texas State government is going to hold a dance festival in Texas next 2 month, I will like to invite you to partispate if you are interested.Contact me for more details.
I will be expecting to read from you.

Sent from an e-mail address in the UK. Yeah. Right.

I actually wrote back and asked "if you work for the Texas government, how come you have a British address and can't write English properly?"
Answer: "I am Mexican and I love to use a UK mail address."

    Totally right!

What am I missing here? They are offering to PAY, not asking to receive money? I don't get it -- what's in it for the scammer? I've never gotten one of these & appreciate the warning.

I like how they want the girl to be "less busy" thus the belly dance lessons for "him."

These always give me fits of giggles.

I guess I dont understand how these scams work either, how are they getting your money? Never received one of these, but it certainly makes me wonder if that is why certain dancers have not replied to my queries for organizing a workshop in Ohio!

the way these scams work is they send you a "check" for more than the amount of your fee, and ask you to deposit it and send a check for the balance to someone else.
I will happy pay you $1000 for to dance at my party. I am send you a check for $1500. Please send $500 check to the photograph who wil picture my party.

    this cracked me up:
I am Gary From the united state.
    which one?

    "I am Mexican."
too bad you can't write Spanglish either. (Gary, now there's a typical Hispanic name)

the saddest thing about these scams is how stupid the victims must be to fall for them.

Very unlikely Mexican. It's definitely not a spanish to english translation. No native spanish speaker would write "partispate" with an S because even in spanish the word is spelled with a C. Most likely another Nigerian scam, by someone who figured out that Texas is right next to Mexico.

    Regards
    Priscilla

Speaking of scam, I dont mean to hijack this thread, but since I sold stuff on ebay, I keep getting emails. It looks from ebay, and its usually very rude people threatening me, here is a copy of one:

Why would you do this to me you received the package 6 days ago and still no word on the payment ... you will not get away with this . I have your address and will be paying you a visit these days.
There is an item number and one I checked out didnt exist, the other was a truck from florida that was won at over 2k. This one that existed didnt show the actual bidder, but it did relate ratings that were from something-49 (mine is 42). I was able to report that one, but not the other where the item didnt exist. Ebay states when you report that no one will contact you, they will just note it.

All of these are coming into my spam box, not into my inbox. This last one scared me a little! Anyone else getting these?

yeah, i've gotten those too. except it's about real estate i apparently won. darn, i hate it when i forget i've bid on real estate. i wonder if it's a bridge.

these are phishing emails. they will direct you to a website that looks like ebay/paypal and when you log in, they get your ID and password, etc.
you should forward these emails to spoof@ebay.com. with luck they'll be able to track down these idiots.

one way to be safe is to register on ebay with a variation on your name that's not your regular email address name. that's the real name you give ebay, not your handle for bidding etc. i'm registered with ebay using a variation of my name that's not the same as what shows up if you just get an email from me (i use initials). Any legit email from ebay will be addressed to that name. if i get an email that looks like its from ebay, but it's addressed to my regular name, i know it's bogus.
i'm pretty sure (can't remember) emails from ebay will include your registered name and your bidding/selling handle. Jane Doe (ebaycutiepie1) the phonies are often Jane Doe (youremail address)

i go the extra step and use a different email address for ebay and paypal. i have several email addresses that i use for various purposes. for example, if i get an email from my bank addressed to my regular email address- i know it's bogus b/c my bank doesn't have my regular email address.
