    Talking Chuckle-worthy contract terms

I'm performing Sunday at a diversity day event. The following language appears in the contract:
The Performer agrees to accept full responsibility for... damage... or... personal injury or death, to the extent such damage or injury was caused by acts or omissions of Performer. This includes but is not limited to situations where... Performer has encouraged body passing or other unruly crowd activity, thrown objects, or engaged in acrobatic maneuvers.
Darn, I guess I need to eliminate the section of my baladi taqsim performance in which I was going to encourage body passing in connection with the music building to a climax.

Have any of you been presented with contracts that gave you a chuckle?

Shira - how will you cope without the crowd surfing section of your drum solo? it just won't be the same.

Sure, but out of professional courtesy I won't divulge them here. My professionalism, mind you, not necessarily the professionalism of those proposing the contract terms in question....

I actually had to ponder for a minute there to figure out what "body passing" is!

It's the "omissions" part that would worry me-what could you be leaving out that could cause bodily harm????

What a lame event. No body passing or things that could cause death. WHIMP!!!

    I have nothing to share.

Can't let the pet boa constrictor take a walk (er, slither?) through the audience, either. Dang.

Well, I once asked a gym I teach at why I needed to take out my own insurance when all the students were already covered by the centre's existing policy. Their reply? "In case one of your students punches another one." Yeah, in a bellydance class. Go figure...

I don't know there jewelbelly--have you read some of the other threads about crazy dancer politics? (or even just been on the SwapMeet when a super costume deal comes up?) What if someone steals someone else's spot in front of the mirror/undulation/dancer mojo/hot Arabic DJ's phone number...Or if there's an inexpensive Bella in the room that someone's selling? Could get dangerous.... ..l;,

For what it's worth Shira, I TOTALLY think you should do the bodypassing taqsim. Screw the contract. ;-)

Uh...that actually happened here once, at the first BDSS show. Its wasn't a class, but it happened. There was blood, police, an ambulance and everything. Bellydancers have issues too! .w.:

Took me a bit to figure that one out and I'm not that old or out of it. I always thought it was called crowd surfing?

I was in the same boat. I know what body passing is, but I just know it as crowd surfing. Took me a minute to figure that out.
