    Bellydancers vs balloons....

I got hired to do a bellygram last night...second in 8 days, which is a total record for me, but his opening line on the phone was priceless...

    Me: "hello"
Client: "I'm calling from out of town...it's my friends 50th birthday tomorrow and I know it's short notice but I am trying to decide if I want to send him a bellydancer or balloons..."

    ;-)

Got any hiring funnies to share??

I always bring a balloon for the GOH on a bellygram, so he'd be safe hiring me!

I do too...my response was "so send a bellydancer with balloons!" (I got the gig...and he paid me $30more than I asked for!)

I have a "regular" client who has hired me for three of his friend's birthday parties - but he never attends the parties himself! It's like, "Sorry I couldn't make your party, but here's a Belly Dancer to make up for it." ..l;,

lol...and I thought this was going to be about dealing with props (big veils, canes, swords) and helium balloons with strings hanging in the way!

That happened to me on Valentine's day! Balloons were everywhere and I had to dodge the strings as they tried to entangle me. I had to grab a few and dance them out of the way.

    Congrats on the gig Sonja!

so what kind of balloons do you girls bring? you dance with it or just hand it over when you start? trying to picture this in practice.

This last time, it was a 50th birthday party, and for some reason I brought him a purple monkey balloon. I guess I just liked it.

I pick the balloon out, usually just bring one nice one, tied to a card that says "on behalf of xyz and bellydancer Sonja, Happy (insert occasion here)" with my business card inside. I usually set it aside where it can't be seen, dance 2 short short songs (a veil 2 minutes and 2 minute drum solo) then go & fetch it and come out, hand it over, and dance with zills while the GOH opens the card, then get him/her up to dance.

I'd love to know how others are doing it....

I did a little belly gram for a 50th b-day party. They had helium balloons along the walls but not where they would get in the way--the ceilings were tall. At any rate, midway through my dance, the balloons started popping! I think with the room filled with a bunch of people and a bellydancer, the helium expanded causing them to burst! It was pretty funny. I came with my own "accents"
