Out of town rates
Can anyone share any thoughts on what fees to charge these scenarios for out of town contracts? Would it be along double a normal rate, or maybe more?
1. A one night show (I don't know how long) but in a remote place where I essentially have to spend all weekend. All transportation and lodging etc is already covered.
2. A week of teaching classes in the same remote region. Probably not intensive teaching, maybe 1 or 2 regular classes per day, aimed at beginners so not intensive workshops. Again transport etc is covered, but I do have to spend a week there.
3. A combination of the two scenarios.
I have some ideas based on what teachers I have invited from out of town have charged me in the past, but any other help would be useful.
Thanks.Last edited by SamanthaFortunata; 03-11-2009 at 10:40 PM.

Oooh, you got something cool brewing? ..g.:
I'm guessing it might also depend on where.

Re: Out of town rates
Just hypothetical at the moment.
I guess the question is do I double my usual rates for shows and teaching? But also I have to be there all that time doing I don't know what.
And the distance is still within province/state. So not national or international travel.
Although I would be curious about those rates too, but later.

You should also consider that though you will have "downtime", it's still your time and you are essentially giving up any other gig you could theoretically do because you have to stay at the location, whether you are working or not.

Exactly Melanie. That's why I don't know how to price this type of request.

Re: Out of town rates
I would bump up the rates to double and a half for what you would normally charge for this type of event - teaching or performing. For example, if you charge $10 per class, then charge the out of towners $25 per class. Especially if you have to stay there for a whole week.
Also, I would treat the downtime as a mini vacation. Everything is paid for, so why not? Shopping, dining, the works.

That's about what I was thinking, between 2-3 times a normal rate.
Does anyone else have thoughts?
