Modern Day Megaphone
How do you prefer to keep in contact with people these days?
Email?
Letters (yes, through snail mail)?
Telephone?
Social networking sites?
You just count on bumping into them at the next hafla or show?
How do you prefer to be contacted?
Word of mouth?
Yahoogroups?
MyFaceSpaceBook?
Mass emails?
Flyers that you pick up?
Flyers/newsletters that are sent to you?
Mass newsletters sent via email?
Word of mouth?

Re: Modern Day Megaphone
I generally keep in contact with friends/family via phone and email, though since joining Facebook, I've also been using it to keep in touch as well. For acquaintances, I usually just wait until I bump into them again.
As for how I want to be contacted, I guess I prefer things like groups and tribes, so I can check in when I want. I also like receiving email newsletters as long as they have relevant news and aren't too frequent. I tend to dislike mass email announcements every few days that tell me things I don't need to know. I still receive emails from dancers back east telling me things like "I'm dancing here this weekend--come see my show!!" This annoys me for several reasons: 1) I don't ever want to receive an email EVERY week telling me stuff I should be able to find on their website if I want to know, 2) I no longer live in the area so it's particularly not relevant and they don't seem to give me an opt out option, 3) I hate spam and I think this falls kinda into that category.

Re: Modern Day Megaphone
Yeah, I try to separate my mailing lists by geographic regions so that people are not receiving irrelevant information. At times, though, I have such a varied travel itinerary, I figure if I mention it to someone, he/she may know someone in that area who might be interested and is not receiving the newsletter. But I don't spam too often.
Anyone else?

Email, Social Networking sites, Phone
Email, Social Networking Sites, PhoneHow do you prefer to be contacted?
Phone is last in all cases because if I am not near my computer I can't check my calendar, etc. I like to receive emails so that I can have instant access to update my calendar and because I have pretty busy days and can answer it late at night or whenever I have a free moment.

Re: Modern Day Megaphone
And I LOVED that coffee place!! Great apple turnovers!

I'm SO bummed, my dad and his family are moving from Oregon this spring. ..cr.:
It's okay, I can threadjack my own.....l;,
I so dig email rather than phone, too (in accord with Mahsati). I'm getting better at answering my phone b/c I realize it may be someone calling for a last minute MUA but I am so reluctant...
