    partypop?

I saw that some people mentioned partypop...

I am on there now as a free listing(as of yesterday) but I was considering paying to get the preferred account. It's not too expensive, but do any of you have success with this and/or do you think it is worth it?

I'm in a very small town, so I can't decide if it'd do any good. I'm close enough that I can take gigs in Columbia, Kansas City, St. Louis, and sometimes Iowa (depends on how much i'm making) but if they search me and see "kirksville, MO" I'm not sure anyone would follow up on it.

I've had a free listing with Partypop for about 3 years now and I've only gotten one gig from it. I live in a small-ish town so I personally would have no reason to upgrade my account with what I've gotten out of it so far........ More people find me for gigs via my website :)

I have upgraded to a paid listing with PartyPop, mostly because no one else in my area has one so it pops me to the #1 position above several free listings. I tend to get about 3-4 gigs a year from it, which more than pays for the upfront investment.

    Re: partypop?

One advantage to being on Party Pop is that it's typically the first thing that pops up on a search engine when somebody googles belly dance in your region.

Even though a lot of us don't get gigs just from PartyPop alone (I've only gotten one, the rest were people shopping around for the best price), I think PP is a good "directional." That is, in many cases, a prospect might first land on PartyPop to get a list of names - then s/he has a starting point from which to Google further and see who strikes their fancy. In short, it drives people to your website.

I'd love to start doing more market research to glean insight on the dancer selection process, how people find us, what they look for in a dancer, etc. But I think getting yourself on as many free directories as possible, is a very good start.
