FINALLY!!! An alternative to PayPal
I love NPR. I heard this story last night about sending and receiving money via Amazon.com.

Anyone use this? Anyone have any strong objections? I will probably end up using this instead of PayPal on the swapmeet and such.
Woo Hoo!!!!

Re: FINALLY!!! An alternative to PayPal
I have tried amazon, paypal & google, & honestly I like google checkout the best- so few people accept it, tho... I wish more people knew about it, because the rates for sellers are much better if you have to use a credit card.

Re: FINALLY!!! An alternative to PayPal
Yes, Google is great, but with this you can send and accept money to and from individuals...you can't do that with Google checkout.

Re: FINALLY!!! An alternative to PayPal
you're right- I guess it depends on how much selling you are doing! for me, it was worth it to go ahead & set up an account.

checkout.google.com
Like Andalee said, it is really set up for vendors/retailers (which is the brain I had in this morning, since I just updated the website for work)

Re: FINALLY!!! An alternative to PayPal
I used Google Checkout for the Intensive one year because they let me try it for free and it saved me thousands of dollars in fees that year. But I had some complaints because people weren't familiar with it and didn't want to use it. I dont' think it stopped anyone from signing up, but it was a bit of a deterrent. We ended up going back to paypal.
I'll be interested to see what this Amazon one does. Not sure I'm ready to jump ship. I know people who hate paypal, but I haven't had a problem.

Re: FINALLY!!! An alternative to PayPal
I can understand that, Samira dncr. As someone who mainly purchases, I don't really want to have to set up multiple accounts to shop. I already have a PayPal account, which I set up to make purchases from EBay. I don't really want my credit card number to be out there in multiple databases. I don't want the hassle of keeping track of several different types of accounts for making payments. Having to do that could deter me from purchasing, so I can understand the concerns of those who didn't want to use it.

Re: FINALLY!!! An alternative to PayPal
Regarding of online payment processing, it depends on where is your customers located, and how's your business sales.
PayPal is most commonly used online processing system for small online business. It offers reliable, yet low cost for online transaction. The great advantage of PayPal is it is well-know in US. Lots of people have a Paypal account. Disadvantage is, Europeans don't quite like Paypal. Quite a few of them don't have or don't like to use credit card to make payment.
Google is great too, transaction cost as low as PayPal, however, it has far less registered users than PayPal.
Regarding of amazon, it is no comparison to the two above.
If you really want to have reliable, fully functioned online processing system, you may need to consider other options, for example, authorize.net, securePay, 2Checkout, ect. If you have installed a shopping cart in your website, it should be already available to use.
