    How To Respond to Buyer Tactics

    I thought this article was very good, so am posting for us all the have the benefit. It also goes to show that it's not specifically because of our artform that people try to negotiate, it's just human nature and how we respond is the important thing...

    This is good to know. Also where I live there seems to be a few of these new medical care people coming door to door to talk to elderly people about alternate care. Not sure if it's legit but I am definitely asking some questions.

    Nice article.

    As much as I hated my last job (ad sales for a radio station), my previous employer made us sit through countless seminars and roleplay sessions on how to overcome sales objections.

    When it comes to managing your dance business, B2B sales skills are a highly underrated skill to have in your "tool box." Especially in an economy where prospects know that they can take advantage of anyone with barely a fraction of the effort it used to take to get a deal.

    Every time I see posts on Bhuz about how "this only happens to Belly Dancers, because no one respects us!", I kind of shake my head a little. Because as the link above shows, clients trying to get something for nothing (or close to it) is completely generic to any and every service industry.

    This used to happen allllllllllllllll the time in radio. It was always how many free spots they could get, or "the station down the street will give us 20 morning drive spots for $50" or "Could you tell Chaz & AJ to, like, banter about how good our Buffalo wings are on the morning show tomorrow?"

    Almost makes OUR price objection madness look tame!

    I think the difference with us is (and perhaps some other professions), that many of us attach our identities and some of our self worth to ourselves as dancers. So it seems 'personal' to us when people try these negotiations.

    Many of us would not be the high quality dancers that we are without attaching a great importance to the dance in our lives, so it's a catch 22 situation.

    Even the most professional dancer, I am sure, at times thinks "I can't believe that client said x or did y during the negotiation - who do they think they *ARE* ! ?"

    I know, I love it too- maybe for every booking that is a direct result of the show, they get 10% off their next show? I think this might have some practical applications if I just sit & think on it for a bit...
