Thread: How to List Your Web Site

Hello all!

I recently put together a web site for some dance classes I'll be teaching in my area.

I'd like to know for those of you who have sites how you listed them and got them to come up in the search engines.

I've added meta tags and descriptions. I literally just made my site this week so I know it will take time. I'm just wondering how to create a search engine presence, so to speak.

Also try Google Webmasters and Analytics (and ad words if you can afford it).

Adding your site to pages is probably more time consuming than developing the site.

Almost all of these have my Web site address and basic info about my dancing.

Get yourself linked to, by other sites in the dance comm.
For a start, here on bhuz, you can add a link through your signature and put a link on your profile (and reciprocate by adding a link on your site to Bhuz).
Get your link onto Facebook/myspace/whatever social networking sites you use.
Get your site listed on Shira's links page (again, you have to reciprocate, and this one might take a bit of time, Shira's always got a long list of updates to do!)
Link to your friends' sites in your local community and ask them to link back to you.

my web status went up dramatically when I added a blog- my hypothesis is just that students are now going to my website regularly for updates, so i have much higher traffic- existing students didn't really have a reason to keep going back to the site before.

One key thing to do - avoid using Flash to author your site. Flash really damages search engine ranking. Basically, any page authored in Flash probably won't get indexed. Plus, Flash is just plain annoying - it takes forever to load. Visiting a web site created in flash is like watching paint dry.

I just completed my site on yesterday after four straight days of working on it. Building it was the easy part. Getting it listed is definitely difficult.

Now that I am content with how my site looks, I'm working on adding content and links to my site (of course adding Shira to my site is a must!). I've opened a Facebook page and will also do Myspace. I listed my site with Google, but they say listing your site with them doesn't guarantee that you'll be listed. I still have to do the other search engines.


I want to do Google AdSense but my advertising budget is extremely limited.

I don't have any flash on my site. I've made my site very simple, clean in appearance and easy to navigate.
