    What to charge...

    I'm having some charging dilemma's again ,r:;

Been asked for 3 gigs in a row.
1 20 minute show on tuesday
the same 20 minute show on wednesday
    and several shows on sunday

We already agreed upon the price for the tuesday and wednesday shows, but for the sunday shows, they want a different formula.
I proposed 190 euro's for 2 short sets (10 min.) with a costume change, travel expenses included.
But now they want 4 longer shows (15 to 20 min.). The shows will be somewhere between 14 and 18pm, so waiting time is reasonable I think.
And they also mentionned it would be ok if I did the same show 4 times in a row, as the audience will be changing throughout the day.

Now the thing is, I've never been asked to dance more than 2 sets.
4 times the same show means less prep. work...

Do I just take my 20min. show price, times 4 and then give a discount?
That just seems like a lot of money, even to me ..l;,

I'm halfway to closing this deal, so I want to make sure I give a fair price, but I don't want to undercut either!

Don't be afraid to ask your price! You still have to dance and give the best of yourself 4 times! Plus the waiting time etc. Don't underestimate it, it's more than an hour of gig-level dancing!

Hi Luna! They also contacted me, but I was not available those dates. Artemisia sent them a quote too, so you could ask her how much she charged?

    Re: What to charge...

hey, for a half hour show with two dancers (what they asked) i usually charge 300E for the first set and 250E for each additional set. if they want more than two dancers it's a 100E for each additional dancer per set.

So I charged them 800E to be there ALL afternoon and do between three and four shows. plus travel expenses.

they told me they found someone closer, so i'm assuming that's you! good luck with the gig

i did a similar thing in a different town a while a go. they wanted 4 half hour shows spread over two days, with two dancers. full price would have been a 1000nd. i gave them the multiple booking discount, and we charged 800E eventually, nearby so including transport.

if you take the gig, for these kind of gigs

    - you need to be prepared to end up doing more or less shows of different lenght than was usually discussed. I like being the one person on their program that is NOT a diva and who is flexible enough to adapt the show at a moment notice to however there day is running. they WILL remember this and they WILL tell others about how easy you were to work with. i've seen so many of these events where one of the paid artsits throws a totally unprofessional tantrum, goes overtime, refuses to shorten their set etc.

it is nearly impossible for a full days entertainment to work exactly as sheduled. so make sure you have enough material, enough sets etc with you, to cater for that. a show like that, i would typically make sure i have a few rehearsals just for this show with whomever i'd be taking as a dance partner, and make sure we have enough stuff we can do together at a moments notice. this level of preparation is basically also what they'd be paying for.

    Re: What to charge...

Thx for all the input artemisia, as always ..g.:

Well, the gig is practically around the corner for me, so I didn't charge travel costs. And I'm glad to see those prices... Now I know I'm not too far off with the duo prices (we usually charge 250 for a 20min. show)

    The thing is, even though they asked for 2 dancers, I always include the prices for 1 dancer as well... I've noticed that if they think the price is kinda high, they often just go with 1 dancer. Same story here ,r:;

But, of course, 4 half hour shows is something completely different than 2 little bellygrams (they weren't really clear about what they wanted in their first mail)

And you're right Queenie, it will be a long day with 4 shows!
I'm glad I checked on bhuz first! I almost stepped into that trap again of giving them too much of a discount...

Ps: Artemisia, don't forget to bring that red Hanan you're selling to the ava workshops

    Re: What to charge...

well, i always include the price for one, two, three dancers also. and if they go for one, well, than that's allright and than that's what there budget is, and one dancer is what they get... there's nothing wrong with that...

and sometimes it works the other way around, even if they've asked for one, i'll quote for troupe as well, and sometimes there is a budget for do that, and it becomes a big gig

having a menu of prices is a good thing. but then you need to stick to it, and not end up giving them the duo for free...

    Re: What to charge...

    ah,

even if they say 'four times the same set is ok', i wouldnt. i'd bore myself to death. so i might reuse some of the songs, but mix it u a little anyway (different popsong, different intro, whatever)...

    good luck!
