Thread: Gift Certificate 'terms & conditions'?

If you do gift certs, what sort of terms & conditions/rules/guidelines do you put on the actual certificate itself? Like: no cash value, cannot be redeemed for cash or merchandise, call xxx-xxxx to schedule, please crate pets and children for duration of lesson, etc.?

Mine states: No Cash Value, Non-Transferable. Lesson times/dates subject to availablilty

I've done a couple - I put an expiration date a year ahead, and "performance venue/time subject to Zorba's approval" just to keep me from being asked to dance at the dive on the wrong side of town, etc.

Oh, and I forgot to add - since mine are for lessons, I only do three months out for an expiration date to encourage the recipients to case them in sooner rather than later.

Sorry, I should've clarified, this is for a lesson. It's for a give-away/drawing/doorprize thing at my gig tomorrow night.

Be careful about adding expiration dates. In some state gift certificates and gift cards cannot have expiration dates. Many states' laws have changed adding the no-expiration provision in the past few years prompted by the increasing popularity of gift cards.
