Thread: Shopping in Pittsburgh PA?

I will be visiting some in Pittsburgh PA in the early part of December 2009. since I will be there for 3-4 days I thought I might do a little shopping at a store or stores that carry Belly Dance items. ..g.:

My natural assumption is that in and around Pittsburgh PA there has to be at least one or two decent sized BD shops. (The closest BD classes for me are in a different town so BD instructors and/or shops in my area are a pipe dream.)

I've Googled several different things and I can't seem to find any listings for that area. I've googled belly dance shop, bellydance shop, belly dance costumes, bellydance costumes, middle eastern dance, middleeastern dance...etc. etc. etc. and I can find dancers, online stores but so far no physical stores.

Any assistance in locating a BD shop would be appreciated.

If you're an oriental-style dancer, you're not gonna find too much, I am afraid. However, there are two places that you will enjoy:

I would highly recommend The Culture Shop in the South Side. It is run by a fabulous belly dancer, Christine Andrews of Zafira Dance Company and her husband George. They have mostly tribal-ish streetwear made mostly from vintage sari fabrics, but if you're lucky, they have very unique skirts and tops that will be a great addition to a vintage oriental costume.They have beautiful jewelry, scarves, etc. Also, not on display, they have some incredible antique cholis.

In Squirrel Hill, there is Road to Marakesh. They have beautiful Moroccan furniture, some pretty jewelry, a few hip scarves, and lots of ethnic instruments.

I will be In Pittsburgh Dec 11-14 2009 so if you have a swap meet/sale day let me know and I might be able to swing by and spend some money.
We have friends who moved there recently so we will be visiting them a few times per year.

Thank you for all the information. I like Tribal style also so I'll have to see if I can sneak away and go shopping while the men are doing what men do. LOL

I second the recommendation for the Culture shop.

Oh yes please! Tell Bernie I wore the yellow Pharonics I got from her this past weekend at the restaurant. I got tons of compliments, it's my new favorite. Remember you can stay at my house if you want in January. Big Poppa will love you, not so sure about Monty (python) as he is kind of shy. Still working on getting him to be more social.

Ha ha Ha! That screams costume buying time! Well, I am in the 'burgh as well and am going to sell an eman, a hanan and a sahar soon. If you want to pm me, we can compare sizes. :)

There is some neat stuff happening around town lately, hope you get to do some sightseeing while you are here!

I'm hoping that the weather is good and that I will have some time to go sight-seeing and shopping. I'm just not sure what our hosts' have planned for us.

I will be in the area around the holidays. I realize that it is a little too late but if any other ladies are interested, I can bring stuff up.

I will be traveling through the Greensburg area December 26-27.

I will be in the Venango County area December 24-25
