    Dance Company Rates

I work with professional dance company and trying to establish fixed rate without undercutting for private parties.
We have been charging anywhere (depending on the shows) from $60 to $125a dancer)
We really dont have such a group in our area to compare with or one or two groups that have students performers, so I like to know how much you would ask for your dancers (how many, how long)?

    thanks,

We charge a minimum of $175/dancer for most gigs, and often we ask for $200/dancer. My thinking is that dancers are not a "bulk" item - there is no discount for buying multiples, as the prep for a group show is more work than the prep for a solo show.

i charge 175 € for just myself for one set, 300€ for two sets. For each additional dancer (so if they want 2-3-4-5 dancers), it's 150 € per dancer if it's just ONE set and 100 € per dancer for each additional set. more or less.

the biggest gig i had was 25 dancers, where i charged 300E for the soloists, and 100E per dancer for the choir/corps de ballet.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with what has been posted. It's a per dancer price. I wouldn't lower it. We used to do formation performances in the ballroom world, and we charged $125 per dancer per show...and that was a while ago, so the prices have probably gone up.

When I book my company in gigs, I charge my regular price for me, and then $20-25 less per dancer for my company dancers. I only charge less for them because they don't do any solo work, just group routines.

    Re: Dance Company Rates

Dilek, I have a professional dance company, and it depends on the event, corporate events I charge $150 an hour with a 2 hour minimum, granted most places don't have corp events like we do here, for a set 1x show I charge minimum $225 per dancer, but have been paid $500 per dancer for larger events with bigger budgets.
I would just say take what you would usually charge for a party and charge that for each dancer. If you are trying to book them in a nightclub say, for weekly shows, then whatever the going rate is for a nightclub show, I would think you should charge a little more, because there is a lot more that goes into a dance company than a soloist who can show up and improv and go home, your dancers have to have rehearsals, choreographies, matching costumes, it's definitely more work, but a lot of fun!! Good luck!!

    Re: Dance Company Rates

I live in an area with a depressed economy (middle of the country, outside a major city, within spitting distance of East St. Louis).

    I charge a minimum of $125, and that's for a quick 'bellygram.'

For a real show, it's $175 minimum for one dancer. I will arrange additional dancers for slightly less because part of my fee includes costs of advertising, manning the phone, transportation, time spent planning the show, etc. and tht portion they only pay once. But additional dancers would probably still cost $150 or so.

I don't get many gigs calling for more than one or two dancers, though, so I'm not sure how I'd price that.

The exception is nursing home shows. Their budget is small, they'll let me bring student dancers, and they'll schedule during off-peak times.

    Dilek,
i would not worry about undercutting. I have my own buisness and each of us as dancers is a buisness. so charge what you feel comfortable with. you do not want to out price your self and not get gigs. as long as all the people in the company feel like they are getting paid enough. that is what matters.

    Re: Dance Company Rates

I would stick with what you would charge for 1 dancer, minus $25. When people are hiring 4-5 dancers, they expect a discount, like we're coming in a package, at whole sale price :), and I think a slight discount is reasonable, but not too much. Each dancer still has to do her part, and like others said, there is more coordinating going on when working with a group.
