Thread: Spinoff of Why BDers Don't Post More Vids on Websites

I hope this is the correct place to post this (please let me know if I should move this)... I seemed to gather from the original thread asking why Bellydancers didn't post more performance videos on their websites, the general consensus that good video quality--worthy of being on a website--was difficult to capture. Just wanted to put this out there for the Chicagoland/Great Lakes/Midwest region BDers, that McGonagle Productions is pretty good in my humble opinion ..g.:

Here are a couple of vids he put together for me in two weeks (& he considered these "rushed" hurriedly put together & nothing fancy--yet he managed to make even me look decent!:)):

Sometimes it's just a matter of someone videotaping you when you either don't have a recorder or you can't find someone to do it for you. I don't have a recorder so I don't feel right in asking others to give me a recording of myself unless I know them really well. Sometimes people offer to but then they never do, while others have actually been offended when asked to even if I've offered to pay for any costs.

OTOH, sometimes I would like to know what happens to some of these videos of me that I never see. ..c::

Yeah, there's probably about 12 hours worth of footage of me floating around that I'll never get to see ..cr.:

Plus, with all these snarky threads that come up lately, I don't even know if I'd want to "go public." Heaven forbid I get ripped apart by the Belly Police because I touch my hair too much, or somebody finds my pointing and winking corny, or whatnot!

I am wondering, just a suggestion, as response to why BDers don't post more videos. I don't here because I don't know where to post.
I am pondering if it is possible to set up another forum Title under the BHUZ forum for "videos"? You can post your own or maybe videos of some dancer whose performance you saw on youtube and admire or have something to say regarding performance.
Maybe one for "Performing"?

I would pay good money for access to all the videos of me shot at weddings by actual videographers....

I haven't been around much lately, so I don't know what the original thread was about, but the reason I don't have more videos is because my video camera isn't hi-tech enough to get good quality video in the types of establishments I usually dance in - dark restaurants or clubs. THe only time I get good video footage is when I hire Amy to shoot events, which usually only happens once or twice a year, and is mostly in a stage-show setting, not a restaurant.

You mean you don't use the "hafla" video section? It WOULD be more convenient if there was a Video Thread I agree.

Frankly, I think that if a dancer is presenting herself as a professional she should post videos of herself performing. And I HATE the short compilation video. ANYONE can make themselves look good in 35 seconds of clips strung together. I prefer to see live raw clips of a dancer. That's when I get the real feel of the dancer.

I understand the promotional clip and it's place, but I think the dancer should back up that promotional clip with some raw footage.

Norma I agree. I also prefer raw footage. I am checking into a teacher for cabaret. I asked her if there were any video of her performing because I didn't see any on her website and I have never seen her perform. She has none! Anyone can say they're great at this and great at that. I would like get a feel myself by viewing the dance performances. I think that's the best "resume" you can put out there for teaching, gigs, restaurants, etc.

I agree as well. I'm far from a pro, but I'm a junior dancer in a troupe and was surprised we didn't have any video on our website. I've put a few things on my youtube channel that my dad recorded and through those few clips we've gotten jobs and invites to perform with some fairly big names.
