using wordpress as a website, your thoughts
For those using wordpress blogs as your main website, is there a widget to add or some way to track hits per day/month?
I'm still hosted on bizland and I can get hourly stat counts but not sure how to do it on wordpress
Also, since it's very time consuming to update web content I am thinking about pointing my domain name so that when you type in akaisilks dot com it goes to this:
The Morning Bleat
I like that I can add content daily , have a custom header, and there is a menu on the side that takes you directly to the most important and most searched pages on the akai website. Easy easy navigation. Instant link gratification.
What say you?
This is a basic template from wordpress..I may get a custom one later on but the basic idea is there

Re: using wordpress as a website, your thoughts
Hey Jes,
I use wordpress for my website (Queenie - Buikdanseres - Bellydancer). I believe there are several plugins to track hits and traffic, I use statpress. I just use the admin part, but I think it has a widget to show your visitor count.
I like wordpress. There are some things that don't work the way I'd like them to, but overall it's very easy to maintain and to do updates. I had it installed and the template made for me, I do the plugins and updates myself.

I use wordpress too (see link in my sugnature). I need to tweak it a bit more, I also use statpress. Just make sure that your plugin is suitable for the version of wordpress you are using. I sometimes have trouble installing plugins that are not updated and it is annoying to have to go into the root directory on the server because the CMS is not working anymore.

those are both really beautiful, I love how easy it is to find your page info from the first page (both of you )
do you pay for a domain and outside hosting anymore or just use wordpress? I have been happy with bizland for many years.

Re: using wordpress as a website, your thoughts
Yup, mine was built on WordPress ..g.:
I paid the big bucks to have a pro do all the coding magic for me. The one thing I love most about my site is that I can sit back and laugh maniacally at my unfortunate friends who have to pay their web guy or wrestle with HTML weirdness every time they need to make a simple update. Updating my own site is free and it's as easy as updating a blog!
I can definitely see why so many web designers think WordPress might be the wave of the future for websites. It just makes everything so easy and user-friendly.

Rio of Satori Dance also uses WordPress. I had some help from a friend of mine who's much faster with CSS changes. As far as I understand it the theme you chose to work with is very important as far as ability to customize. The most customizable is atahualpa. It has a widget already installed that does traffic analysis. (I haven't gotten very far into that part of it yet though). I love it so far. I've added Event Registration which allows me to put up workshops so that folks can use Paypal to register, I've got photo galleries that work off my picasa albums- if I add or remove from the picasa album, my website is auto updated. Of course, I've got a contact form and eventually I'll upload interactive pdf forms for contracts, participation waivers and other such stuff.

I pay 29 euro's a year for hosting and domainname. That's about 45 USD, I think. I found it easy customizing a standard template and started off by a basic template and replaced the banner.
