Re: What's Everyone Charging This NYE?
Not trying to be a party pooper but an honest question is coming. I'm not a professional dancer so this is new to me. Why would you charge more for NYE gig? I ask ONLY b/c I've read on here soooo many times that dancers charge for:
The time it takes to get ready
Costuming
Gas
Make-up
What gives and makes NYE different and how is this not price gouging?
Again, not being mean, just asking b/c I would like to know the difference in case I ever make it to the performing scene.....

Re: What's Everyone Charging This NYE?
This is a case of demand and supply in a way as EVERYONE wants to celebrate so many many many more people want to go out and have it be something spectacular! aaaaand they ALL want to do it AT THE SAME TIME! ...and to be honest it's the only night we make what we SHOULD be making otherwise!
DJs and musicians charge triple and quadruple on NYE sometimes, so double is nothing. Also- have you checked out your local restaurants and what they are charging per head on NYE? ..l;,
At a place that might normally cost $25 per person, they'll charge $75 and up for a limited menu (or buffet), a glass of cheap champagne and a few balloons thrown on the ceiling. LOL. With THAT kind of mark up- owners CAN afford to pay us more on NYE.
Event venues charge more, caterers charge more. There are on season and off season prices for hotels, wedding vendors etc...this is similar to that concept.
Does that help? ..g.:

Re: What's Everyone Charging This NYE?
The overhead on NYE is minimal and the cost for attending a soiree is great. When a restaurant is charging 100 per head then a table of 4 more then covers the cost of the dancer.

Yes, but your hassles are higher. Loads of traffic, public transit is beyond slow and taxis can take an hour to arrive (here, anyway). Its a time of year where most people would like to be with their friends and family and I think the pay has to be worth the trouble and sacrifice. You would get paid at least time and a half at a regular job, so why not for a gig?

Many college bars charge an arm and a leg for New Year's Eve. They may have some extras, like food, but it really isn't enough to justify the cost of entrance.

If we were only making normal pay that night, a lot of us would probably take the night off! Paying extra is the only way to snag a dancer for a holiday like New Year's Eve.
