rates and updates
Hi all!
I've finally gotten things in order to do updates on my site (newly redesigned) and it's high time I get the rates updated.
PLEASE post or message me with rates in your area.
The main info includes the following:
Restaurant rates (and "up to" length of show)
Party rates
Other info can be included such as:
regular class rates:
troupe rates: (I'd really like to expand on this!)
bachelorette or hen party rates (ie: when teaching at a party)
Remember I do not know your region or the major cities in your area, so please post with all pertinent info.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: rates and updates
For me, in CT/NYC:
Restaurant rates - I do $100 for 20 min. show. It's been that for a long time but I'm always so appreciative to the places that support the dance. Some places pay a bit less but there is a large band to split money with at Grisly, Mezzo, etc.
Party rates $225-300 for 20 to 30 mins
regular class rates $20 drop in, $15 if paying for 10 or more
troupe rates: My duet rate with my partner is 450 for 30 min show with choreography
bachelorette or hen party rates (ie: when teaching at a party) 250-300 which includes mini performance, bindis, and CD.
Thanks Samira for keeping your site current and HIGHLY informative! I will check our your new look!

Re: rates and updates
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada:
Teaching minimum (class, private or semi-private) $25/hr
Performance minimum $110 for 15-20 minute set
Transportation out of city 0.30-0.35/km round trip
Hen party/bachelorette party rates vary more, $125-225/hr. More is charged if a full performance is desired, less for a partial performance. Some charge more for full costume vs. less glamorous attire.
These rates were last updated in 2005.
01-02-2010 02:35 PM #5Re: rates and updates
Dallas/Fort Worth:
Bellygram (10-15 minutes) $200-$225
Full show (20-30 minutes) $250-$300, extra show with costume change + $100
Hen parties (one-hour lesson at client's location) - with short performance $300, (without performance $250) - these MAY include keepsakes, but not in all cases.
Classes - $15-$20/hour
Private lessons - $80/hour, (semi-private $50 per person)
Restaurant shows - currently, $60-$75 for a 20-30 minute show, or $100 for two 15-20 minute shows (this is an old rate, but there are a couple of places that currently pay this)
NEW venues should start at $75-$100 for one show, $120-$150 for two. This is my goal in 2010.
ETA: The rates on my website are slightly higher for the hen parties, but my experience shows that I've had better luck booking at the slightly lower rate. I will leave the higher rates up on my website, though, and continue to aim for that, as I typically try to lead the way in raising rates in my area.
Group shows: minimal $200 per dancer, per hour onsite if applicable.Last edited by tamrahennatx; 01-02-2010 at 02:50 PM.
01-02-2010 02:50 PM #6Re: rates and updates
I'm often asked why restaurant rates are different than private party rates. The reason is an obvious one: regular income vs. sporadic income. The more I work for you, the more discount off my regular $250-$350 rate you receive.
Another area that I haven't seen covered in discussions like these is the rate for restaurants that have dancers occasionally but not every week.
The rate breakdown I have devised for restaurants is as follows:
Less than once a month booking: $175 for a 20-minute show
Once a month booking: $150 for a 20-minute show
Twice a month booking: $125 for a 20-minute show
Weekly or more: $100 for a 20-minute show

Re: rates and updates
Aachen, Germany, my personal rates (which are comparable to neighbouring cities)
Party rate show 18-20 min: 185-215 Euro plus traveling fee
Party rate bellygram 10-12 min: 155-175 Euro plus traveling fee
Corporate show 25-35 min or more than one set: 295-495 Euro, depending on nr of costume changes or length of set(s), plus travel fee
Weekly class rates in my area are around 8-10 Euro per hour, I charge 9 Euro per hour (a bit less if students combine hours). The city (VHS) also offers belly dance classes at a cheaper rate (about 35-40 Euro for ten classes)
Private classes: 30-40 Euro per hour plus studio rent plus travel feeLast edited by Khalida; 01-02-2010 at 06:23 PM.

Re: rates and updates
Samira, the new layout looks very good but -- you seem to have moved (renamed) your 'Fair Pay, Typical Rates etc' page, so that every page in the world that links to your rates page is now broken... including ours... don't know when the change happened, I suppose, I haven't checked that link in a year..I think.. anyway, if move was recent, maybe you could move it back to http://www.samirashuruk.com/standard...uidelines.html ?
Seriously, if I had a page that was that popular, I would NOT be moving it for anything.
Shira's moving pages around too, I found three broken costuming links on our website yesterday, but she's so conspicuous she can afford the broken links.Last edited by maurazebra; 01-05-2010 at 09:27 AM. Reason: PS

Re: rates and updates
The host change over created a bunch of address changes. I'm working on renaming the files to change some of them back. Thanks for bringing it up.

The hookah lounge here hires bellydancers to perform one 15min set monthly - pay is $40. I'm only booking 2 set shows now & have quoted them $80 for two sets. However, NEW venues would start at the restaurant rate.Last edited by TexasRuya; 01-05-2010 at 01:48 PM.

Thanks for posting those rates, Jordon. I may or may not move to FL (Merritt Island) sometime this year. It's never too soon to get a ballpark figure for what everybody's charging!

Re: rates and updates
Minneapolis/St. Paul
Guild information is not very helpful for this at this time. Based on what I've learned talking to dancers in the area....
Restaurant:
-------------
15 to 30 minutes (depending on location)
Places that have been doing it for a while -- $60 for 1 show, $75 for 2, $90 for 3 (that's total, not per show--and that's the Guild'ds current posted rate), tipping allowed
...but when a new one starts up, conscientious dancers have been trying to slowly nudge that up, so there have been a couple at $75 for one show, $100 for 2.
Private Party
-------------
General going rates are $150-$225+ with a lot of the basic (anything up to 30 minutes--whether belly gram, hen party with short performance and lesson, etc.) often falling in the $150-$175 range, and going up from there.
Weddings: Minimum $200, if add special requests, shamadan/zeffa, or major PIA factor, most people charge more.
Classes: $12-16 for 1.5 hour class, $15-18 for 2 hour classes for drop-ins; some programs have session pricing only or price breaks for full session or multiple classes. Workshops/mini-workshops vary.
Troupe rates: Really complex...varies a LOT...in part because of the range of troupes (some pro, some decidedly not) and in part because of the range of the events.
Overall with respect to rates: Obviously, for travel outside a certain area, extra time, major PIA, etc., dancers generally charge more.

Re: rates and updates
Killeen, TX and local areas
Classes: $70 for an 8 week session, $60 with advanced registration, $10 drop-ins. I may also be including an additional class for $40-50 per month, I'm still working out the details on that.
Mini-show/bellygram (10 minutes or less): $125+
Basic show (15-20 minute set): $175+
Themed Children's' Parties: $225+
Weddings and Showers: $250+
Adding a mini-lesson to a show: $25 per 15 minute block (i.e. $100 for an hour)
Fire Fusion: Add $50 to any show, suitable venues only
Snake Dance: Add $50, limited availability (currently unavailable due to theft)
Restaurants and Clubs: $75+ for a 15 minute set, additional sets in the same evening for $50+ each.
I charge an additional fee for distance outside the local area (Killeen, Copperas Cove, Harker Heights, and Fort Hood) $0.50 per mile beyond city limits
Troupe performance rates:
We chose to simply charge an additional $100-150 per dancer over my rates as a soloist for any performance opportunity, generally 20-25 minute sets for larger groups (4 and above) with a soloist or two.
Fire Fusion is an additional $50 per dancer for troupe settings.
Our troupe is currently not performing, but I am working on building a new local performance troupe. These are likely the rates we will use.
Just a correction, really trying not to sound like I'm trying to cause a conflict here, the local hookah bar used to book bellydance shows 2-3 times each month, minimum. They cut back due to costs, but they are looking to book dancers more often than once a month in the new year. Currently I am also negotiating a new contract with them, for the new year. I can update details on that once I've finalized my new contract.
Belly Dance Central brings you Bellydance, bellydancing, belly dance costumes, belly dance events, belly dance forum, bellydancing events, bellydance travel, belly dance stars, belllydance swap meet, belly dance accessories, bellydance attire, belly dance workshops, bellydancing events, bellydancing workshops, belly dance seminars, bellydancing seminars, and bellydancing
