a tip for event promoters and sponsors (from a vendor)

Just a suggestion for those who promote workshops, events, etc:

Create a mailing list with names of vendors on it to send out when it's time to reserve a spot for vending. I would probably pay the vending fee and attend if I didn't have to seek out events and times.

I'd be more than happy to receive newsletter reminders about events in my area. If I could not attend, I'd love to at least know about the event since I'm happy to promote it with links on my blog or my own newsletter.

If someone was diligent enough to create a list of events..I would pay to receive that list. In fact , other event organizers could network with the list creator, maybe have free advertising for text ads or paid advertising for photo ads..this would be very easy to do if it was online..maybe pdf form I'm not sure. It would be a benefit to event organizers to promote their event, and to vendors who would LOVE an organized list of events by region or date.

    Calendar format would be beautiful.

    just a thought..

If someone could build a page on their already existing website, that would work as well. You would receive a lot of hits on your website. In fact you could probably offer paid advertising on the site.

    Hi Jes,

I did that for Bedouin Bazaar. Would you like me to add you to the list for this year? It's the second weekend in October in San Diego. I have vendor applications online, and the flyer is getting the finishing touches.

I've attempted to do this, but I don't necessarily know how to find vendors that will travel vs online vendors. Truthfully, more often than not, I have an abundance of vendors, so I don't really need to search out vendors anymore. Most of the time vendors seek us out, and then we add them to the waiting/mailing lists. I guess it's a demand thing. I can see where this would be useful for organizers that needed to search out vendors.

On a different note, this year we started offering payment plans so our vendors didn't need to come up with the fees up front. We allow our vendors from the previous year the first opportunity to reserve their booth and then open it up to new vendors after that. The only reason we even have open spots this year is because we are expanding our souk.

I did an excel spreadsheet once with all the info I could find for annual belly events. It took me hours to put together, and I had it listed in date order. But it was hard to keep up, and the information was often scanty. You'd be amazed at how many people don't have basic contact info on their websites.

These days I just check the multiple event listings that are already out there. Bhuz has one, so does tribe, laraqs.com, orientaldancer, etc. Bhuz is useful because you can look by area.
