Liability Insurance Question
I'm currently in the process of switching my employment status from employee to independent contractor at the studios in which I teach. So now I'm shopping for my own teacher liability insurance.
I've read through some past threads, and it looks like quite a few of you have your own insurance through myfitnessinsurance.com or the International Dance Teachers Association. It looks like the minimum coverage at myfitnessinsurance.com is $210 per year, but $299 through IDTA, if your classes have 10 or more students. Both of these seem reasonable.
My question is this: while it looks like the policies will cover me regardless of what studio I am teaching in, do they also include my home studio? Do any of you carry two separate types of policies?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Re: Liability Insurance Question
I chose myfitnessinsurance.com over my old provider (whose name I don't recall) because they cover my studio as long as it's less than 1,000 square feet.
That's ONLY for professional liability, though. (not sure how that applies to studio space, but *shrug*)
You'll still need a rider on your homeowner's policy to cover theft, people who trip, fall and sue, etc.

Re: Liability Insurance Question
We are assuming you own your home here? Lauren is right (as usual) about your homeowners policy, but do check it first before you call the insurance company, as you may be already covered and not need to buy additional coverage. Waivers might be a good idea too if you are teaching out of your home.

Re: Liability Insurance Question
Thanks for the suggestions, and yes, I own my own home. I guess I need to make a call to our insurance company, to see exactly what I need, if anything.
I plan to create my own waiver, as an extra layer of protection. I've seen in past threads that most everyone has one, even if they aren't legally binding.

The IDTA insurance covers you wherever you teach.
