Thread: Going video

I'd like to add video to my class curriculum - but don't want to use something like youtube.

I want to limit access - in the form of whom, and just to the computer an individual signs up on, as well how long they will be able to access (as want them to drill on their own between classes, review for a time after - but not in perptuity).

Any suggestions?

How many students do you have?

If it's fewer than 25, you can use the private link feature on YouTube. That allows you to send out a private URL that is only accessible via that link, and limited to 25 computers. Then when you want to "retire" the video, you set it to private status, so only you can see it. PM me if you need instructions.

If you need finer control, and have some geeky inclinations, you could set up a site in Wordpress and use the Wishlist Member plugin to set access controls. That allows you to limit access by page and by person or group.

That said, setting up "real" access limitations is a pain. It takes effort for you to set up, and for your students to register, get access, etc.

You may find that "pretty good" security is more practical.
