Thread: Got my first "icky" gig request

So... I feel like I'm part of a club or something now- last night I got my first ever (yes really, the first) inappropriate, icky gig call. A guy called and asked if I was a belly dancer (yes, I am) and he asked how much I would charge to dance in a hotel room in a certain area town (suburb of Minneapolis). I hesitated and said "is this for a party or something?" He replied "no, it would be private. You know, one on one." I didn't really think, I just said "I don't do that sort of thing." He was very nice and very polite- he apologized, thanked me for my time, and hung up. I'm sure he was just some guy with a sultan fantasy or something, but no.... I don't think an actual belly dancer he what he's looking for- I think he should try a hooker with sheer harem pants and a push-up bra. Me? Um....no.

Sometimes general public just think that belly dancers are strippers or pole dancers. When I tell people I belly dance, I was asked before "so where is your pole?"

At least, this guy was honest about a private party in a hotel room. Imagine if you showed up and then realized that this was a "one on one" gig.

i had something similar but i was so taken back by what he was saying it was hard for me to andwer. the guys starts of telling how beatiful i am and how me needs to sleep with me. he was me at a party and i remember his voice cause he asked for my card. i said i don't do that. i can dance at a party. he kept percisiting so i said i am sorry i have to go.

Just found out via Facebook that he called 2 of my troupe-mates, too (same phone number). So, he's either persistent (I WILL find a belly dancer who's a whore) or he's calling around just to get off on the reactions. Either way, ick, ick, ICK!

Yeah, he's been at this since Wednesday--I know he called me, Azzuri and Tatyana that night, sound like he called you and a couple others last night. I mean, DUDE! What you're looking for is an Escort service, not a belly dancer.

Actually, though....I suspect that (like with SatinWorship's foot guy) what we have here is a guy whose not so much interested in actually finding what he's calling about--I think he knows he won't--as much as he is trying to get a reaction. Some weirdos really get off on that. >:( But I mean...that would explain the "persistence." If he were really looking for someone and he had half a brain, he'd soon figure out he needed better search criteria. On the otherhand, if what he's looking for is the indignant reaction, to be the bad boy...well, he'd keep right on calling down that list! Perv.

TC Dancers, I posted the actual phone number in the comment on Amara's status on FB. I'd recommend if you see that number pop up on your phone, just don't answer. Or, if you must, get off the phone quickly. Don't engage with him, don't give him the rxn he's looking for.

The sad part is that it wouldn't be surprising if he did find someone. There is always a Shakira-instructed "professional" who will accept the cash and be oblivious to how degrading this is to herself and the art.

Silly me, I didn't even know that these scumbags existed until I got to experience the phenomenon twice this year. I agree with what Mirah said, though. Don't engage them, because some weirdos get off on invading other people's personal space.

You know what worries me, though? Anybody who is listed on PartyPop.com automatically gets listed on their sister site 101exoticdancers.com. After e-mailing them several times, they still have not removed me. MyPartyPlanner.com also lists many BDers under weird categories, like "exotic dance teacher" and even....wait for it...."naked belly dancer."

I wonder if this might be a source that drives some of the creepy callers to our sites...

Judging from the people he's called (5 that I know about so far) and the numberss he's used (not all current phone numbers for everyone), he's calling the dancers who are listed on Partypop.

If he's looking for the reaction, I must've been a sore disappointment- all I said was "I don't do that." He apologized and hung up. Nothing terribly exciting (for me, anyway)- maybe it was a thrill for a creep.

I wish there was a Do Not Call List for belly dancers looking to avoid perverts!

I briefly dated a man who was from a very conservative Muslim family. He had never seen a belly dancer. He really wanted to see me dance, but would only do so in his hotel room. (He lived in Detroit. I lived in LA) His reasoning: he did not want his family to know that he had seen a belly dancer perform.

Was Leo perfectly harmless? Probably/ Was I willing to risk it? Nope.

It wasn't just the distance which kept us from going further in the relationship!

No joke! It was on Facebook. I friended him at his request, he runs a business here seemed on the up and up and not (by looking at his friends list) a "girl collector" We have many of the same friends.
This was on facebook live chat. That is all he said! I made sure I posted my status talking about the eewww factor prior to unfriending! (did not mention his name but wanted him to read it)

My most recent of these calls came about two weeks ago. When I made it clear that neither I nor any of my belly dancer friends would come to the house for a private, "bachelor party type of show," the guy said, "Oh. Well don't you work in a massage parlor, too?" (I think I mentioned massage therapy in my bio.) I told him that I am a certified neuromuscular therapist and work with a chiropractor to help people recover from injuries.

I just love having TWO misunderstood professions!
