    Lightbulb Brilliant! Mailing lists through Google Docs (using forms)

    My boss told me about this today, and it's so simple and brilliant.

    If you have a Gmail account, you can create a basic mailing list document that people can join or that you can add members to.

    1. Create a new form in Google docs
    2. Add whatever fields you want (name, email, etc)
    3. Choose a background theme if you want
    4. Email around the form or press the "embed" button to bring up code to add to your current website.
    5. The form generates a new spreadsheet with the answers to all the info you requested on your form which you can then very easily add into a regular email or import into a program like MailChimp. You also can access some basic analytics about the number of people who join, etc through the "show summary" button.

    BRILLIANT and so easy!

    I'm still working out a kink in my code that has to do with my header (nothing to do with the form), but here's my Google docs created mailing list page in action

    I used this when I organized a cruise for my family. I sent them all forms that asked for the info I need like birth dates and passport info. It was really easy.

    I suggested this to an old friend who was organizing our HS reunion last year (therefore all kinds of 'puters and all kinds of 'puter skills) and it worked really well for him.
