Stupid question but how do you create a Facebook fanpage?

I have two Bluegrass Bellydance and one for the dance me 'Azraa

I like having them because I keep my personal page very personal and like to be able to share family news, etc without strangers reading it.
I also use the fan page widget on my website - Bluegrass Bellydance in Owensboro, KY - Home at the very bottom of the main page. Hopefully, it will get website viewers to "become a fan"

Probably the easiest way is to visit an existing fanpage and look for the link at the bottom of the left column that says "Create A Page for My Business".

I use my personal page for more personal announcements & status posts. I use the fanpage for all things belly dance.

Me too... my personal page is pretty much limited to "friending" by people I've met or stuff because it's my personal status posts, etc. Dance stuff is on the fanpage...

I guess it didn't work. How did you guys get an IP addrss for your fan page. I found a how-to but it didn't work for me.

I just started a fanpage today, pretty much just to have class information and upcoming performances on. Since I just started it today, it barely has anything- one picture and a couple of posts. I'm looking forward to after my kids go to bed, when I can look at all of your fanpages and see what cool things Bhuzzers are doing!

OK... I am a fan of a few dancers on FB but I don't get why everyone has to have a fan page and ask people to be their fans. Aren't people supposed to be your fan because they want to be, not because you ask them to be? I've seen some dancers post repeatedly "fan me, fan me, fan me." Maybe I just don't get it.

I don't think of the "fans" there as fans, more as people who are interested in me through dancing, rather than being a friend in real life (or online). I don't call it my Fan Page, I call it my Dance Page. I don't care how many people join it, but it's the FB space where I put all my dance postings and information, in order to keep my main personal FB page for family and real friends, and where I can post more personal/everyday information.

Of course, I wasn't savvy to that when I first joined FB, so I currently find myself with a whole bunch of "friends" I don't really know, who have no interaction with me, but who are connected with dance in some way.

And mentioning it here wasn't a race to get more "fans", but a way for my bhuz friends to find me on FB if they choose to do so.

I agree with Beafarhana. I actually think that Facebook did everyone a disservice by calling them fanpages. They are really geared to be profiles for businesses. In facebook language, a profile=person and a page=business. So I think most people are just trying to build their business, not merely as an ego-trip. You can't build your business if you aren't out there promoting your business. (Which isn't to say that I don't think self-promotion can go overboard.)
