Scam - Spooky Dad
I got yet another of these "my daughter is coming to your country, send me your bank details" emails today. As usual I just sent them my web site address - but I thought I would share his response. Made me shiver..... Don't think I'll bother with another reply.
"Thank you for your swift reply Sarah.I went through your website and i loved what i saw.I think it might be one of the things my daughter might need to make her more exotic. If you know what i mean.
Please let me know your mode and the regulations.I will like to make her payments as soon as possible.

Whoah. That statement makes me think your fake-customer is also a fake-father who's never actually had a daughter.

Has anyone *ever* had any actual paying business from these?
I didn't think so...
Given that we always *always* know it's a scam, why bother replying, at all, even with just your website info. I realise it may provide a bit of a giggle to wind them up, but any reply is just encouraging them in more fraud.
Edited to add- I am obviously Mrs Grumpy-Trousers tonight

I have had ONE that I thought might be but was actually a student coming over to the UK and she did come to class for 6 months. Some of them are very obvious, but others are a ? - I'm just one of those people who would hate to insult someone whose english is a bit bad and honestly wanted to do a class.... I know, I need to toughen up !

I had that same one from "Robin" - that daughter is going to be very busy!
I assumed that she got my contact details from my website in the first place...?
I usually can't be bothered to reply to these ones unless I'm in a naughty mood, and I most definately will not be replying to the one I got this morning...
Hi Caasi
you r wonderful. I saw ur photos. I never mailed to any lady, but after seeing you I would like to make friendship with you. I am an organiser, who arranges dances of various types. I am from India. Can you come to India for a show. I will see that you will be paid more than what ur paid there. You are really sizziling. You have wonderful shapes, with correct sizes and good color. let me know more about you

This is strange-I got one of those the other day, but can not figure out how the person got my address! It was from someone who said they wanted the daughter to learn the basics of ballroom dancing such as waltz and salsa. I have only been a bellydance student for a few months, and have no idea how to ballroom dance-when I tried to reply I was told there was no such email account on yahoo. I thought there was some mixup, that maybe some one from a previous class gave out my email by mistake. I don't have a website, so I don't know how else someone would find me-I just figured this was some sort of mass email sent out to see who would respond, for further spamming. Weird.

I posted about this at the time.
But closer to home I kept getting phone calls from a "Steve Hiley" from Skelmersdale wanting my address. He had been given my telephone number, in all innocence or naively which ever way you look at it by a vendor, and kept ringing to say he wanted to send me a cheque for a course starting after Christmas as a Christmas present for his daughters (he had bought hip scarves from rthe vendor). Fortunately I was quite legitimately able to say "You deal with my employers ***** College and send a cheque to them and you can just bring you daughters along to the first session. He phoned a number of times ,as the phone calls started Sept (oooooooo a man planning early for Christmas)saying the college were not being co- operative and wanted to send money straight to me. I advised him to keep on trying or even send the cheque straight to the centre .
Strangely enough the girls never appeared for their surprise Christmas present.
Just maybe, just maybe he was genuine and they told him "Bellydance..what makes you think we wanna do that!!!"
Spam dads.
Oh and I have won the lottery twice this week..the one which is United Kingdom in "Colabration" with Nigerian Gold Mining Company but please don't approach me for a loan or free belly dance lessons for your daughters.

Shirin, somebody DOES actually believe them, or they wouldn't waste the time. For every one of us that says "You've got to be KIDDING, that's such an obvious SCAM!" there is a percentage of people who are pretty sure, but not entirely... and a percentage who think it's probably true... and percentage who fall for it hook, line and sinker.
So what makes them think somebody will actually believe them is the fact that somebody actually believes them.
