    Doing the troupe thing again

    Gulp

as of now i again running two "troupes". although i'm configuring them more as temporary projects.

my new student troupe is called "the A-Team", and will start rehearsing two hours a week after Easter. it's goal is mainly to prepare for possible summer festival gigs coming our way, and possible other shows and projects, and to sllllowly get going for the february 2011 student show. I have 8 girls signed up now, but we'll be about 15 in total i think (hehe, of which several bhuzzers, my students are invading here).

the professional troupe is connected to the RAKS project (the Razia-Artemisia-Khalida Summerschool) and called RAKS PRO Dancers, and consists out of other local professionals (or just starting out professionally) and will be working all summer to prepare for the show featuring Bozenka that we are hosting mid october. This is not an ongoing troupe but a goal oriented project, and we might repeat the experience at a later date with the same, or other dancers, preparing for other shows, or it might grow into a more permanent thing. i'm really looking forward to working with these people and to have material worthy of the show, and for other gigs for multiple dancers.
this one has 4 choreographers (me, khalida, razia, queenie) and 8 dancers (of which several bhuzzers, lol).

wish me luck. My previous troupe experience ended with a lot of heart-ache, but i'm ready to try again.

I love leading a troupe. Experiencing the bonding of rehearsals and performance, and seeing the dancers evolve throughout the years is all very fulfilling to me. So many early morning hours spent envisioning and creating the next success: class, choreography, rehearsal, show, whatever!

Yes, there's a bit of heartache in almost anything, but in my opinion, the positives in leading a troupe with a solid team mentality far outweigh any negatives in the end.

    Good luck!

Ditto! I've led a dance troupe since 1993, it's a huge part of my life. :-)
I've made so many mistakes along the way- regrouped, rethunked, & rebuilt -learned a lot the hard way; but I will say the rewards have definitely outweighed the negatives. I wouldn't have traded the past 17 yrs for anything, and it just keeps getting better!
Good luck Artemisia, & your troupe looks lovely!! Though we all know, it's not luck, it's the hard work, dedication, fun, and heart & soul, and humility too, that gets put into it!!
