    Question for Workshop Organizors

When you host a workshop, do you purchase event liability insurance? I always buy insurance when I produce my own shows, and I have been buying the same insurance for when I host workshops. But I have been thinking and now I am wondering if it is duplicative.

If someone gets injured while dancing at a workshop, I know the teacher would be liable, and possibly the venue - but I am assuming both the teacher and the venue carry their own liability insurance. Would the person collecting the money (aka the organizer) be liable as well? Is it necessary for me to buy additional event insurance, or is the teacher's insurance and the studio's insurance enough?

I am a lawyer, but I don't deal with insurance so I am not sure. But I do know that everyone sues everyone for everything, which is why I usually buy insurance for every single thing that I do.

Just wondering what others think about this. Event insurance is no small expense, and if I could eliminate it it would be nice.

    Re: Question for Workshop Organizors

The venue that I use requires that I carry event insurance for my event. So, yes, along with all the other insurance I have, I also have event insurance for the workshop and show.

This venue hasn't said anything about insurance. I usually just buy it so I've never asked if it was necessary!

Yeah...I hate buying it too. It's a big expense. But it's a necessary one.

I guess I'm buying it again, then! Thanks ladies.
